Sons of the Forest Crafting system, explained

Happy crafting!

Players who played the predecessor to Sons Of The Forest will have a good understanding of its crafting system. There are some quality of life adjustments compared to The Forest, but the mechanics are largely the same. While there's no book that can be viewed to look at every crafting recipe, players can find what they need to craft as long as just one item from a recipe is picked up. This is how to craft in Sons Of The Forest.

As players pick up items, they can open up their Inventory with the I key. From there, items can be equipped, eaten, and combined. When hovering the mouse over an item, players can combine them by bringing that item to the center. From there, players can hover over the gear to see all the crafting recipes for that item. This will highlight objects that the player has in white while showing what items are missing in red. While trying to survive the first night of the game, players will want to craft a good weapon.

While trying to search for different recipes with other items, players just have to clear out what is in the middle of the inventory screen and then add one item at a time. With one item combined in the center, hovering over the gear will show everything that the singular item can be used for. More crafting recipes will be unlocked once other crafting materials are picked up and can be viewed from the gear while it has an ! over it. Once all the items in a recipe are set, clicking on the gear will combine them and can then be used by clicking on them in the center.
