Is it worth playing Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Before Jedi Survivor?

As Jedi Survivor serves as a direct sequel to Jedi Fallen Order, we highly recommend you play the Jedi Fallen Order, the prequel game in the series, first. There are a number of reasons for this. First and foremost, Jedi Survivor takes place five years after the events of Jedi Fallen Order. This means that many characters and general plot points in Jedi Survivor will be a total mystery to you if you have not played Jedi Fallen Order.

The main character of both games, Cal Kestis, goes through a number of important trials and tribulations throughout Jedi Fallen Order that will probably play a role in Jedi Survivor. As mentioned, Jedi Survivor also takes place five years after the events of Jedi Fallen Order, and just from the media coverage of the sequel, we can see that Cal Kestis has clearly aged and matured to some degree. The Cal Kestis from Jedi Fallen Order just seems much more juvenile when compared to the version of him in the sequel. This makes sense considering what happens to him in Jedi Fallen Order.

In addition, while the gameplay has massively expanded in Jedi Survivor, the core roots of it can be enjoyed in Jedi Fallen Order already. Players who played Jedi Fallen Order will be right at home despite the expanded scope of gameplay Jedi Survivor looks to be offering. On the flip side, if you've never played Jedi Fallen Order, you may find Jedi Survivor a bit daunting as it does have a touch of Dark Souls coloring.

When does Star Wars Jedi Survivor release?

Star Wars Jedi Survivor released on April 27. All modern platforms, the PC, XBOX Series, and PS5, will be getting the game at the same time. It is currently unknown if the Nintendo Switch will receive the game, but it is not scheduled to at this time. If that changes, we'll let you know.
