In Starfield, you can upgrade your ship's existing weapon or attach and assign new ones to improve the fighting capability of the vessel. To do this, visit any of the Shipyards or Ship Service Tech NPCs located in the spaceport area of major establishments like New Atlantis, Cydonia, Akila City, Neon, Red Mile, and more. Interact with the NPCs and select the "I want to view and upgrade my ships" dialogue option to open the shipbuilder menu.

You'll also need to progress considerably in the game to get various new weapons and upgrades for your ships. Skills like Starship Design allow the installation of superior and experimental ship modules, while Piloting lets you fly B and C-class ships. I recommend ranking up these two skills to take full advantage of aerial combat.

Ships have three weapon slots where you can allocate different types of lasers, missiles, particle beams, electromagnetic, and ballistic weapons. More weapons will get unlocked as you progress in the game and upgrade to better ships. Likewise, aligning with factions like UC Vanguard allows you to get a few extra ship weapon choices from vendors. Here are some of the best weapons to use for every ship class in Starfield.
