How to Swap Ships in Starfield

In Starfield, you can purchase and customize various spaceships to journey through and explore the vast galaxy. While there are several ships to choose from, you'll have to progress in the game to get the option to purchase new ships. Naturally, you need to know how to swap ships and make a specific aircraft your home ship. Here's how to swap ships in Starfield.

How to change Ships in Starfield

At the early stages of the game, Barret will give you the Frontier spaceship. This will be your primary aircraft to travel between galaxies until you purchase a new spaceship. To buy a new ship, speak with the Ship Services Technician at any of the major cities. The first one you'll encounter is at New Atlantis near the landing area.

To swap ships, select the "I'd like to view and modify my ships" dialogue option while conversing with the Ship Services Technician. This open a Ship Overview window from where you can access all the ships you own. Press Q/T (on keyboard) to toggle between all the ships you own. Choose your preferred spaceship from the lot, and make it your Home Ship.

How to purchase new Ships in Starfield

To purchase a new ship, select the "Let me see what ships you have for sale" dialogue option while speaking to the Ship Services Technician. You'll need a fair amount of Credits, and I recommend progressing in the main quests to get some cash. You can also participate in various side quests, sell items, and complete challenges from various mission boards. This will help you gather some credits, after which you can purchase a new ship.

How to make a Home Ship in Starfield

To make a specific aircraft your Home Ship, simply speak to a Ship Services Technician and select the "I'd like to view and modify my ships" dialogue option. Toggle through all the ships you own, and press H (on keyboard) to assign a Home Ship. Check the yellow arrow on the image above to see where you can select this option. The Home Ship houses your crew and has the Cargo Hold, where you can store items.
