What happens if you don’t go to the Eye in Starfield? (High Price to Pay Quest)

An Eye for an eye.

While there is plenty of action in Bethesda’s epic sci-fi RPG Starfield, it also puts plenty of emphasis on moral dilemmas and emotional relationships. As you begin to find more artifacts, the mysterious start to get more involved, building to a showdown in the High Price to Pay quest. You need to make a tough call, so what happens if you don’t go to the Eye?

Starfield High Price to Pay Quest conclusions

The most important thing to note here is that whichever route you choose, you will lose a crew member no matter what. If you follow the main storyline, there is no way to avoid it. However, what you do have is the power to decide beforehand which crew member you will lose and which you save. If you go to the Eye, the last crew member who speaks to you as you leave the Lodge will be dead when you return. As you try to leave, they’ll begin a conversation with you. That will be our last with them.

In reverse (if you stay and defend the Lodge), when listening to the transmissions from the Eye, you’ll hear that one of your companions has been badly injured and might not make it. If you don’t go to the Eye first, they will die instead. While there’s no actual proof, the game’s AI seems to pick the two companions you’ve built stronger relationships with up to this point. For me, it was choosing between Sarah and Coe.

It’s also important to note that whichever one you choose, you will still have to go to the other location afterward and deal with the death there. Then, whichever option you choose, you will move on to the same next story quest, Unity.
