The bugs, also known as Arachnids, are the enemies in Starship Troopers - Terran Command. During a SlitherineTV Twitch interview, marketing director Marco A. Minoli stated that playing as bugs was not an option. Rather, they will remain enemy units controlled by the game.
Many players may be disappointed, but Minoli said that there would be issues if it wasn't balanced. The developers received feedback about the demo's difficulty, released in Oct. 2021, and they want to keep the game balanced for Federation units. Adding another faction would significantly increase that workload.

Arachnids were a much more difficult foe for the human troops compared to the other enemies they've faced in the past. The Arachnids possessed infinitely more units, terrain mobility, and overall tactics in the books. The bugs are meant to feel overwhelming so that the game can stay true to the lore. Players controlling the Arachnids against the Federation would ruin the balance.
Starship Troopers - Terran Command will be exclusively released on Steam on March 31, 2022.
