How to complete Boss Rush Mode in Stellar Blade

Boss Rush Mode is Stellar Blade's new gameplay mode that is free with the game's 1.003 update, and is perfect for players who want to challenge themselves to the absolute limit against the most ruthless Naytibas. To get started, this mode can be accessed anytime from the Main Menu by clicking on Boss Challenge.

Once there, you'll be presented with three tiers of boss challenges: Story Mode, Normal Mode, and Hard Mode. This aligns with the Campaign's difficulty options, so if you decide to fight these bosses on the same difficulty you chose during the story, you won't be caught off-guard in that sense.

While this mode is perceived as a gauntlet of boss challenges, you can actually battle them in any order you wish. For example, if you want to start with the story's final boss and go backward from there, that's absolutely fine. Or if you want to immediately start with Hard Mode, go for it. The path you want to take to victory is entirely up to you.

Right before starting a fight, you will need to choose which type of 'Preset' you want. These are essentially loadout options, which indicate what Eve will have to use for the duration of the fight, from skills to gearsets, consumables, etc. There are four options, and they include:

  • Settings From Last Played Save Slot - Using the last played save slot's skills, enhancements, upgrades, and equipment. Consumables are also provided, excluding WB Pumps.
  • EVE Preset - Maximum - All skills are available and upgrades are maxed out. Optimal equipment is provided along with consumables, excluding WB Pumps.
  • EVE Preset - Maximum (New Game +) - Includes new skills provided in New Game + along with Mk II gears.
    • Note: This preset is only available if you've completed New Game + at least once.
  • EVE Preset - Minimum - "Ha, I can't believe I have to fight in this form..." This preset only provides the Skin Suit, along with only standard skills and no upgraded gears or consumables.

Upon completing a Boss Rush fight, your stats for that fight will be recorded. These include the preset you chose, difficulty, time spent, perfect parries executed, number of perfect dodges, damage taken, and ammo used.

If you need help with executing abilities like perfect parries, be sure to check our guide for how to do it.

Stellar Blade Boss Rush Mode tips

While Boss Rush Mode in Stellar Blade seems pretty straightforward, based on our experience with it so far, there are a few important tips to keep in mind before you pick up your blade.

  1. No Time Limit - While other games with similar modes push you to beat challenges in a certain amount of time, Boss Rush Mode has no time limits on any of its boss challenges. You can take as long as you need in each fight to execute whatever strategy you have in mind.
  2. No WB Pumps - As noted in the Preset menu descriptions, WB Pumps are the one consumable you cannot use in Boss Rush Mode. If you die in battle, there's no reviving and getting right back up. Instead, the challenge will reset, and you can try again immediately, if you wish. Either way, don't count on having those items available.
  3. No Beta, Burst, or Tachy Gauge Prefill - As part of the challenge, any fight you attempt in Boss Rush Mode will start with zero power in your Beta, Burst, and Tachy gauges. You may want to adjust your usual strategy if it prioritizes using these types of attacks at the outset.
  4. Your Last Save Slot is the Best Preset - While there are plenty of Presets to choose from in Boss Rush Mode, and 'Maximum' is definitely appealing, the best option is still undeniably your own save slot. This allows you to fully customize your loadout and adapt to the needs of a particular fight. Just remember that if you want to make changes to this preset, you need to go back to your save file in the Campaign to do so.
  5. Boss Mechanics are the Same - While this is a different gameplay mode, there is virtually no difference in mechanics with any of the boss fights. Even the areas they're fought in are exactly the same. Your chosen difficulty is the only thing to worry about, so this means you can carry over your personalized boss strategies from the Campaign.

How to obtain new outfits in Stellar Blade 1.003 update

Of course, it wouldn't be a true update for Stellar Blade without adding more Nanosuit outfits for Eve to collect. Thankfully there are a few, and you'll need to know where and how to find them.

First and foremost, two new Nanosuits will unlock simply for downloading the 1.003 update for Stellar Blade. Called Black Kunoichi and White Kunoichi, they are variants of the same outfit and don't require any crafting materials to be accessible. They are literally free in every sense of the word.

Next, a special Nanosuit outfit for Eve can be unlocked via the Boss Rush Mode. It's called the Neurolink Suit (as seen above), and to get it, you'll need to successfully complete every boss challenge on Normal Mode or higher.

Keep in mind that means you first have to defeat every single boss in the Stellar Blade storyline, including the ones encountered in each possible ending. Once you have, all of those bosses will become available to fight in Boss Rush Mode.

Finally, Roxanne has two more outfits available at her black market shop in Xion, and they are by far the most striking. To the point that we can't help but wonder if this was a subtle jab from Shift Up to Sony over the game's censorship fiasco. Either way, 'Midsummer Redhood' and 'Midsummer Alice' will cost you 10 Vitcoins each at Roxanne's shop, and they must be crafted.
