How to beat Chaos Advent in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Insert Chaos meme here.

The first boss of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin can be tricky, especially on Hard Mode. Luckily there are only two phases and only a handful of attacks to memorize. Soul Shield is vital in the fight, but well-timed dodges and blocks can work just as well. This is how to defeat Chaos in Stranger of Paradise.

During the first phase of the fight, Chaos Advent only possesses a handful of moves. Knowing when it is safe to attack or use a potion is important for each of these attacks. Normal Attacks used with the sword can be blocked normally, while Magic Attacks will still deal damage to the player unless they use Soul Shield.

During the first phase of the fight, Chaos Advent can throw shards of ice at the player while dodging away. These require a Soul Shield to fully block as blocking regularly will still damage Jack. The boss will leave themselves vulnerable for a moment if players decide to dodge forward and chase them down.

Blaze can be absorbed by Soul Shield, giving players two charges of the attack to deal a sizable amount of damage to Chaos. This doesn't require a perfect parry and can just be held down while the attack comes through.

During the first phase, Chaos Advent can cast Firebringer to coat their sword in flames. In the second phase, they will use Ice Sword instead. During the animation for this, players can get plenty of damage off before the boss starts attacking.

While Firebringer or Ice Sword is active, Chaos Advent can use a powerful area of effect attack to deal Fire or Blizzard damage. Soul Shield will shatter unless timed correctly and it is best to get out of range of the attack instead.

Chaos Advent can also use an attack that coats its fist to deal Thunder damage in the second phase. This requires Soul Shield to avoid taking damage but can be dodged as the attack starts to come through.

Weapon Attacks

While not coated in Fire or Blizzard, all weapon attacks that Chaos Advent does can be blocked to nullify damage completely. These attacks can be dodged easily as they all have a long windup. Attacking from behind will deal Critical Hits, rewarding players to be risky and dodging behind the boss to deal more damage.
