How to capture Mind salutor Morana in The Thaumaturge

You can start your journey to finding Morana once you have discovered the Powisle area of Warsaw. This can only happen once you have been to your father's will reading. After you’ve searched your father's study for clues, head downstairs and speak to Rasputin on the telephone. The Powisle area will then be available on the main map.

When you arrive in Powisle, head to the waterfront (see the map above). Walking down to the water will trigger you to see Morana for the first time and start the side quest, The Art of Dying. The availability of this quest is limited but you have plenty of time.

I suggest you take your time with it, as you will not be able to take control of Morana until Part 2 of the game. This gives you until the end of the seventh main story quest, To Dust You Shall Return, even if you want to take immediate control of this powerful salutor. You also must have found the salutor Veles and have Word at level 5 to complete it.

The tortured artist, Katejan

Select the quest To Dust You Shall Return from your journal and let your perception guide you along the beach to the artist, Katejan. Speak to him and also to the Police Commissioner, Pelevin, who is examining the body near the water. Speaking to Pelevin exhaustively will open a new journal side quest so follow his trail to find a letter.

After reading it, you'll be attacked. Walking into the alleyway to read the note triggers it, and a fight is unavoidable. I’d suggest saving before you head into the alleyway so that if the battle is a bit much for you right now, you can come back later.

Once you’ve won the battle your perception will lead you back to the waterfront, but both the the body and police will have gone. Talk to the fishermen on the jetty to the right of the crime scene and they'll give you the address of Katejan. On arrival, you'll face another fight.

Head into Katejan's home, draw your conclusions, and then return to speak to Katejan by the waterfront once more. No matter how the dialogue goes, he will be arrested, starting the next part of the quest, Horses in the Sky.

Horses in the Sky

Talk to Pelvin, and then try to get into the Moonshine Bar next door and start a fight. Once you’ve won this, you can enter the bar at any time. There’s no need to enter now though. Instead, go back to the scene of the crime and talk to the kids that have arrived there.

If you decide to barter with them you'll have to go and find an item to trade to them from your father's house. If you instead go for both of the Prideful answers, you'll fight here instead. Whether you fight or barter, the kids will give you a hook used on one of the victims.

After the conversation, follow the child ringleader, Piotrek, via his side quest. Talk with him and the prostitute, and then kill time until night. Speak to all the prostitutes you can find and mention Piotrek when you speak to them.

You also need to confront Pelevin once more and talk to him about the hook. This reveals he wants to find the strength to reopen the investigation. Find the two clues next to Pelevin, then talk to him once more. If you have the salutor Veles, and Word 5, you can manipulate/inspire him to continue with the case. Follow him to the Icehouse afterward and fully examine the body, while also talking to Pelevin.

Uncovering the killer

Speak to the wife of the most recent victim next, and check the bench opposite her (with Perception). While it's still night, talk to the prostitutes again about the victim, which takes you back to the Moonshine bar. Explore the bar, talk to the bartender,  and then convince him to talk to you. The conversation will lead you back to the brothel.

Once inside, talk to Jadzia to get access to the girls' rooms upstairs. Using Perception in those rooms will reveal that the prostitute Klara is the killer.

Now wait until morning (there is a bench near the pawnshop) before heading into the pawnshop to get the ring. If you threaten the pawnbroker, you'll start a tough fight. Win and he'll give you the ring. Now you can follow the clues with your Perception to find Klara's hideout.

You can go in alone, or go and tell Pelvin who will go with you. If you take Pelvin, you'll get the Negotiator Achievement. No matter what you choose to do, after the conclusion of the meeting with Klara here, Pelvin will be convinced of Katejan’s innocence and says he will contact you once the artist is released. This will only happen after you complete chapter 1 of the game.

Chapter 2 - Capturing Morana

When you begin Chapter 2 of The Thaumaturge, you’ll need to speak to your sister after waking up at your home. As long as you have completed everything up to this point, the phone will ring when you head downstairs. It will be Pelvin, telling you the artist has been released. After taking the call you can immediately go back to the artist’s shack in Powistle and talk to him to trigger a salutor battle.

Once complete you’ll need to return to Rasputin for hypnosis, after which then you’ll finally be able to control Morana.
