Wartales Convincing Information quest walkthrough

Convincing Information is a Wartales quest you can pick up in the Drombach County region. This is in the snowy far northwest of the game map and if playing region-locked you’ll be facing some of the toughest enemies in the game, with levels ranging from 9-11.

On release, a bug affected many players which meant that while they had completed the quest, it did not register as such. This bug was fixed in the April 26, 2024 patch, and returning players can find how to complete it below. To pick this quest up as a new player, go to the Scholar’s Choice Market in New-Asthel (marked above) and speak to the Lady Mayoress. After she talks to you she will leave the market. Follow her out to get the quest.

When you speak to the Lady Mayoress (map above) she’ll inform you that the local Innkeeper has gone missing. She asks you to find the innkeeper and bring him back, giving you a potential lead on his whereabouts. Before leaving New-Asthel I suggest you make sure you have at least 1 piton and 100+ Influence

You’ll be heading into a mountainous area and need at least one piton to finish the quest. I would take more, as they can considerably shorten your journey back too. When you find the innkeeper you’ll have two choices, but you need 100 Influence for each one.  Otherwise, you’ll need to return to him later to finish the quest.

You must first speak to a group of Inquisition Officers whom the Lady Mayoress tells you previously talked to the innkeeper. You’ll find them at the location marked on the map above. The simplest way to get there is to follow the path south, and keep following it west to the Tracker’s Camp. Stay on the path moving west towards Mount Ernst Haven and you’ll meet the Inquisition Officers on the path. Whether you lie (90 Influence) or fight them doesn't matter. Either way, you’ll get the next piece of information.

Next, you need to head to Valiant Tower. Follow the path you’re already on and go west of Mount Ernst Haven, turning south at the crossroads. Stay on the path until you see Rimesteel Mine to the west and afterward take the first chance to head east and up into the mountains. You can’t miss Valiant Tower (see above for map location).

Go into the tower and speak with Captain Erulf. Once again you have two choices here, both of which will get you the information you need. If you threaten him (or battle him) you’ll gain 30-40 Suspicion. However, as you’ll be spending the next little while up in the mountains, this will likely disappear before you see any more guards.  Once done, Captain Erulf will point you toward a cave high up in the mountains.

The location you need to go to next is Mount Ernst Cave. Note that you must have a Pitton to gain access to this location, so don’t head there without one. The Pittons is a standard Tinker recipe that can be made in your camp, as long as you have 1 Iron Ore and 1 Rope.

Head directly east from Valiant Tower, passing the Trapper Hut to your south as you go. Once past a large mountain to your south, start to head southeast until you see Mount Ernst Cave to the west. I’ve shown the piton position above. Use the piton to get into this valley and then head to the cave.

You’ll find the innkeeper inside the cave, but unfortunately, he is trapped by some Polar Bears. This is a battle you must have and it can be a tricky one.

  • The innkeeper: You must keep the innkeeper alive to win the battle so be sure to put him at the back out of harm's way.
  • Enclosed space: This battle happens inside the cave, so you can be quite restricted (depending on your luck with the map layout). High DPS units with Unstoppable are super useful here, such as Pugilists and Rangers.

With the battle won, speak to the innkeeper and pay 100 Influence to decide his fate. The reward is the same for both options (20 Scenario Quest points, 75 Influence, 150 Krowns) and your decision is simply a moral one. Hand him over to the Inquisition for execution (you monster), or return him to the Lady Mayoress in New-Astel.

Once you hand him over, the quest should clear from your quest list. If it doesn’t, you can use the Wartales Convincing Information quest bug fix below.

If you had all but finished the Convincing Information quest but it was still showing in your unfinished quest list, as of Wartales v1.0.34505 you can now do the following to complete the quest:

  1. Go to Valiant Tower in Drombach County
  2. Once inside the tower, open your Map

This should validate the quest (it worked for me). You don’t need to speak to the soldiers (as the quest suggests); simply open your map once inside the tower.
