XDefiant’s muddled UI causes players to miss the Map Vote system

This is why we put important people in UI design.

XDefiant is still in its growing phase as players flock from all manner of FPS games to measure whether this title can match up to the big dogs. However, they are off to a bad start when players don't realize XDefiant has a map voting system hidden in its UI.

Reddit user shpooples_ hopped onto the XDefiant subreddit to give the player base a small PSA: showing that this FPS has a map veto system to the surprise of many. They specifically bring up the point that this voting system is unfortunately hidden in XDefiant's cluttered UI. Between the lobby select, the Battle Pass, Loadouts, the active booster, and even the newsfeed, there's no wonder players are missing this crucial option.

A vast majority of users in the thread voice their surprise, saying, "I never even noticed!" or "Okay, now I know map voting exists in this game." A third voice even chimed in with disbelief: "THERE'S MAP VOTING?!!"

Even I was surprised to read that XDefiant had such a great user experience addition. Being able to choose our maps and avoid the terrible ones has been an afterthought for most FPS games. It is refreshing that a standard "I shoot you, you shoot me" shooter brings back the ability to play the best maps. However, it's also unfortunate that Ubisoft missed such a crucial and obvious issue: the UI.

The User Interface of any game is paramount to a player's experience and often leads to confusion, misinformation, or even missing mechanics entirely. It's Ubisoft's job to ensure all the relevant information is offered to players without being overbearing or completely forgettable. The devs have some room to grow in these areas.

One user (Ryctre) hopped into the conversation to add some clarity, saying, "There isn't map voting in the welcome lobby. So everyone just learning of it is still probably there. But yeah, no one votes on maps or thumbs up teammates at the end of the game, so they should probably up the visibility a bit." This may explain why some players don't see the option for their initial experience, but it doesn't excuse the fact that the option itself is very unnoticeable.

That's all we have on XDefiant's "hidden" map voting system. If you're looking for similar content, check out XDefiant max level cap & how to level up fast and more on Pro Game Guides.
