Are there Shrines in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

Are there more Shrines?

The Legend of Zelda series received a huge shake-up when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released in 2017. It changed the series by moving away from dungeons other than the Divine Beasts and introduced 120 Shrines. With Nintendo calling The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom a sequel, you may be wondering if Shrines will return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Does The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdoms have Shrines?

There is no official answer or confirmation, but we do not think Shrines will return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Some of the biggest criticism of Breath of the Wild were no dungeons, as Shrines replaced them. If Nintendo listened to feedback on the game, we would likely see the return of dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Additionally, evidence can be found in Zelda lore. Shrines were Sheikah technology, which was heavily present in Breath of the Wild. In Tears of the Kingdom, we have yet to see much Sheikah technology in the trailers. This implies that Shrines are also a thing of the past.

With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introducing the sky islands, we may see a new type of Shrine. This could be how Link transitions from the ground into the sky. Again, this is speculation, and there is no confirmation, so take it with a grain of salt. We do hope that Shrines are done and traditional Zelda dungeons will return.
