7 Days to Die console edition will launch in June with crossplay coming in future updates

Console players can now also enjoy the experience of mining for four hours to get enough ammo.

Console players can rejoice because, after such a long wait, TFP has announced that the game will finally be available on the console in its current state in the summer of 2024.

There are currently no set release dates, but the developers plan to release it just a few weeks after the official 7 Days to Die 1.0 launch on PC. While I play PC, I know many people who have been waiting for the game to be live on the console, so hopefully, there won't be any major delays.

What to expect from 7 Days to Die 'new' console edition

7DYD did have a previous console Legacy version. However, that version has not been updated in years, and instead, TFP decided to work on a new one due to hardware differences. While the game is going to be so much better now and up-to-date with the PC version (getting all of the future updates that are possible on the console), it is unfortunate that anyone who owns the Legacy version will now have to repurchase 7 Days to Die.

There does seem to be a discount in the works, so hopefully, that will ease your transition to the new console edition. And if you already own the Legacy version, you can still keep playing it, but it will be removed from stores the moment the new version is launched.

The new 7 Days to Die console version will have some missing features on launch, which doesn't really surprise me after looking at the PC 1.0 version.

  • Random Gen - Navezgane and several pre-generated maps will be available at launch, but you will only be able to randomly generate them in a future patch. This isn't that much of a drawback since the Navezgane map is huge to explore on its own.
  • Level/Prefab Editor and World Editor - these options will not exist at launch, and there is no mention of when and if they will be available.
  • Modding - Mods have been improving the gaming experience of 7 Days to Die for years, but the console version will be launched without mod support. They are looking into it, but modding generally isn't as big on consoles as it is on PC, so we'll see if they can figure something out.

Will 7 Days to Die have crossplay?

7 Days to Die won't have crossplay on the 1.0 launch, but it will come with a future update, Storms Brewing, that should be launched in Q4 of 2024. So, any new console players will have to wait a little longer after the official summer release before they can play with friends on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
