That, of course, includes the familiar methods of claiming free rewards.

Borderlands 4 Shift codes are the only way to treat yourself to some Golden Keys. There's no other way to unlock the Golden Key Loot Chests, so make sure to keep an eye on the list to claim them all. Thankfully, they're released pretty regularly, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to get free rare loot. How to Redeem Codes in Borderlands 4
To redeem Borderlands 4 codes for Golden Keys, follow the instructions below. When the game launches, we'll add more potential redemption methods.
- Go to the Gearbox Shift page.
- Sign in to your Shift account.
- Connect your gaming system's account to your Shift account.
- Select the Rewards tab on the left side of the screen.
- Paste a code into the text box.
- Click the Check button to claim your rewards.
- From the game: Head to Menu.
- Selech SHiFT.
- Choose Rewards.
- Redeem your codes.
What Are Golden Keys?
- Golden Keys unlock Golden Loot Chests in BL4
- Golden Keys reward you with Purple and Orange rarity weapons

Are These Codes Compatible With Other Borderlands Games?
Not all of them are. For example, you won't be able to use most of the codes for older instalments that were posted before Borderlands 4. However, many post-release codes will also be compatible with the following titles and spin-offs in the franchise:

How Do I Get the Free Hazard Pay Weapon Skin?
To get the Hazard Pay weapon skin, you must own a Shift account and subscribe to the Gearbox newsletter. Here's a step-by-step instruction on how to get this skin and be ready for the BL4 launch.
- Visit shift.gearboxsoftware.com and either sign in to your existing account or create a new one.
- Head to Profile settings, scroll down to User Preferences, and check the box regarding receiving news and promotional messages.
- Click the Update Preferences button to save your changes.
- Make sure your gaming platform is linked to your Shift account under the Gaming Platforms section.
- Once Borderlands 4 launches on September 12, the Hazard Pay skin will automatically appear in your weapon customization menu.
Borderlands 4 Shift FAQ
Typically, a new code is posted every week, each bringing a Golden Key. Gearbox normally releases codes weekly, usually on Fridays. During special events or holidays, expect bonus codes. Launch week will likely have daily codes.
Borderlands 4 Shift codes often expire after 1-2 weeks. They aren't available for long, so you'll have to redeem them as soon as possible. If you suspect a code is inactive, you can notify us in the comment section. Before you do so, make sure to rule out any potential typos!
Yes, you can only redeem one code per account. They are tied to the account itself, and not the individual character saves.
As long as your Shift account is properly linked, they should work on all platforms. Older Borderlands titles had separate codes for PC and console, but that is no longer an issue. The drawback is that you have to enter and redeem the code separately for each platform you're on. (E.g., if you have the game both on Steam and PlayStation 5, you have to change the platform choice in the drop-down menu and redeem the same code twice).
Borderlands 4 is available on PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be released on Nintendo Switch 2 in Q4 of 2025.
Borderlands 4 is a long-awaited looter-shooter RPG developed by Gearbox Software. The story picks up six years after the end of Borderlands 3, taking you onto the mysterious planet of Kairos. Use Golden Keys in Borderlands 4 to get specific weapon types. In general, the loot scales to your current level, meaning you can use codes any time. Be sure not to wait too long, as they often expire fast.
Diamond Keys are expected to be available after Borderlands 4 launch. They will open Diamond Loot Chests, guaranteeing a legendary weapon. These keys will be shared only during special events. We'll have more information once the game is out.
