What’s Changing With Roblox Chat

In short, Roblox is slowly rolling out a mandatory face check age verification process, which will require all users to perform an age estimation process via their device's camera. If you just want to play games, this will be completely optional. However, if you want to use chat and other social features, age estimation will be a mandatory process.

When Will the Age Check Become Mandatory?

As of November, all users can voluntarily complete the Facial Age Estimation process to verify their age. However, starting in December 2025, Roblox will begin rolling out mandatory age estimation. Beginning the first week of December, it will be mandatory in Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and other selected countries.

The list will expand throughout December, and in January, the Facial Age Estimation process will become mandatory worldwide in all countries where Roblox Chat is available. In other words, starting in 2026, you’ll need to complete Facial Age Estimation using your phone or tablet in order to use Roblox Chat and other social features, such as collaboration in Studio.

How Roblox’s New Age Check Works

Up until now, Roblox players have only been required to enter their age manually, without any mandatory third-party verification. Starting in 2026, however, you’ll need to verify your age to use chat. This will be done through Facial Age Estimation, a new technology that can estimate your age by analyzing a photo or short video of your face. Here's how it works.

Facial Age Estimation Roblox Check Step-by-Step

When this safety feature becomes mandatory, you will need to complete an age check to continue using Roblox Chat. But don't worry, it's not a complicated process. In fact, it's a quick and easy procedure that will be completed in no time. Just follow these steps.

1. Open Roblox on mobile
2. When you open chat, you will be prompted to "check your age so you can use chat."
3. Click the blue Unlock Chat button.
4. A screen explaining how your camera will be used will appear. Click Continue.
5. Tap Allow when prompted to give Roblox access to your camera.
6. Follow the camera instructions.
7. Wait for the estimation to complete.
8. You’ll then be shown your estimated age. Click OK to confirm.

That’s it! You’re now verified and ready to use chat and all age-based features. However, if the system has wrongly estimated your age, you can manually verify your age.

Roblox Age ID Verification: How to Upload ID

If the system gets your age wrong (whether it thinks you’re older or younger than you really are), you can manually verify your age by uploading an official ID document. To do this, you must be at least 13 years old and have a government-issued ID. Before starting the process, make sure you have your document ready. Here’s how to verify your age on Roblox using an ID:

• Open Roblox and log in to your account.
• Head to settings (the three dots icon on mobile or the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the site on desktop).
• Open the Account Info tab
• Under "Check your age to get more features," select Continue with ID.
• On the next page, click Continue.
• Allow Roblox to access your camera.
• Make sure your document is clearly visible. Lay it on a flat, well-lit surface and scan it using your camera.
• Once Roblox detects the type of document, it will ask you for a selfie.
• Take a selfie and wait for Roblox to confirm that you match the person on the document.
• Once the verification process is complete, you’ll find out whether you’ve passed the Roblox Age Check via ID scan.

Here's how to add a Trusted Connection.

1. Both you and the person you want to add must complete the Age Check verification first.
2. Send an invite to or receive a request from someone on your phone contact list. If both of you are verified, the Trusted Connection will be activated.
3. Alternatively, you can share a unique QR code with the person you want to add to your Trusted Connections. You can also scan the QR code of someone who wants to add you to their Trusted Connections.

And that’s it, it’s that easy. Just make sure the person you’re adding is someone you genuinely trust, like a close friend or a family member. Don’t add people you don’t know well to your Trusted Connections. For verified Roblox players aged 18 or older, all advanced chat features will be automatically unlocked when chatting with other 18+ users.

Privacy & Data – Is the Roblox Age Check Safe?

One of the biggest concerns among Roblox players and parents is that, in order to become age-verified, underage users need to submit selfies and short videos that are processed by Persona, a third-party service. This naturally raises questions about data security and privacy. What happens to these images after they’re submitted, and who is responsible for ensuring the safety of children who provide them?

According to Roblox, any videos or images uploaded for the purpose of Age Checks are deleted immediately after the verification process is completed. They are not stored or kept in the cloud or any other form of storage. In addition, the verification is handled automatically by an AI algorithm, meaning no real person will view or have access to these images.

That said, this is based on Roblox’s own statements. While this may reassure many users, we still recommend approaching the process with caution and staying informed about how your data is handled.
