How to turn on cheats in a Minecraft World

Enable cheats in a New World

To enable cheats in Minecraft, you must set the option when you first start a new world. To do this, launch Minecraft and follow the steps below.

  1. Click the Play button and Create New.
  2. Select the "Create New World" option.
  3. On the left side of the screen, you should see General, Advanced, Multiplayer, etc. Click on the Cheats section.
  4. Enable the Cheats option on the right-hand side of the screen. You'll know it's enabled if you have a pop-up on the upper bar that says, "You can't earn Achievements." Check the photo below for your reference.
  5. Click Create World, and you're good to go.

Enable cheats in an existing world

Alternatively, if you have already created a world and forgot to turn this option on, you can still enable cheats if it is your world and does not belong to other players. To enable cheats in your own existing world in Minecraft, follow these steps:

  1. Press Escape on your keyboard or the Start/Options button for controller users.
  2. Hover over to the World section, and choose Game.
  3. Scroll all the way down until you see the Cheats section.
  4. Tick the "Activate Cheats" button. You'll know it's on if the slider is on the right side, like the photo below.

Once you’ve enabled cheats, you can use console commands and cheats of all kinds in your world, making it easier to start your next Minecraft project or experiment!

Can you enable cheats in Minecraft Multiplayer?

In multiplayer, the owner or an admin of a server has the right to enable or disable cheats, depending on their preferences. You’ll have to contact the admin directly to check whether cheats are enabled or if you want cheats activated.

Are there cheats in Minecraft Realms?

Minecraft Realms server owners will not be able to change the Cheats Enabled options after the world is created; however, as standard, the Realms operator will be able to use commands from the start.
