As players progress through the levels of the game, they can gather components. These are required to unlock perks. Components are sometimes hidden around the environment and so players can uncover them by destroying the environment to reveal them from underneath.

When you have collected all the materials, you can go to a workbench and Rocket will automate the perk upgrade for Star-Lord.
| Charged Shot | Players can release a charged shot by pressing R2 twice. Besides dealing Stagger, it can deal more damage than a typical rate of fire. |
| Consumables Magnet | Drops from enemies can be attracted to the player from up to 15 meters away. |
| Rapid Reload | It is included by default. It negates the cooldown period and releases a second shot. Some structures cannot be blasted without the second round of fire after a rapid reload. |
| Tactical Scan | During combat, the Visor can scan enemies. |
| Air Glide | While shooting, you can glide around targets for a short time. |
| Perfect Dodge | Time will be slowed for a moment if players dodge an attack at the last second. |
| Knockdown Dash | When you're hit with a knockdown blow, you can avoid falling to the ground by dashing. |
| Super Quill Punch | Taking down a foe with a lethal blow after a Jet Boot dash will drop additional Health pick-ups. |
| Components Localizer | With tracking feedback and more visor support, players can locate crafting components. Components are essential for upgrading your perks, so this would be an excellent perk to add first. |
| Extra Health | This increases your health by 25%. |
| Extra Shield | Increases the player's shield point total by 50%. |
| Shield Restoration Delay | During combat, shield points are regenerated faster. |
| Shield Restoration Speed | Regeneration of shields is increased by 33% per second. |
| Low Life Buff | When the player's health is less than 25%, the firing rate is doubled. |
Both active and passive perks can be collected, and it is recommended that you try to gather them all. Star-Lord will be more effective the more perks he has.
