What are Punishing Foes in Shin Megami Tensei V?

Tough demons to defeat.

Shin Megami Tensei V has a variety of enemies for players to fight on their way through the Netherworld. An enemy type that players should be wary of is Punishing Foes, but what are these creatures?

Punishing Foes are potent enemies that populate open areas of the Netherworld. Punishing Foes appear on the map when nearby. Keep an eye out for a large enemy cursor with a circle in the middle when exploring the Netherworld. Punishing Foes gravitate towards a specific area of the map, and while they will pursue players that get close, they won’t leave their domain.

Shin Megami Tensei V recommends that players avoid Punishing Foes when they first encounter them, as they dwarf the power of the other enemies in the vicinity. Try coming back to face these powerful Demons after you’ve gained some levels by progressing through the game’s story. Once you feel you’re ready to confront a Punishing Foe, return to the Demon’s resting place and attack it to initiate a battle. We recommend saving first, just in case things don’t go as planned.
