Propnight is a Dead by Daylight/VHS-like game that was released fully in late 2021. The main aspects of the game's content revolve around players defeating one enemy player as a group with the tools they have at hand. It is a four vs one, with the singular enemy player having several abilities as a monster. We'll go over all of this more in-depth within this article.
The Five Playable Survivors
The five characters that players can choose from are Isaac, Taiga, Kate, Chris, and Mabel. Each of the survivors starts each round with an item that is specialized to them. Outside of this object ability, all of the survivors can disguise themselves as nearly any inanimate item nearby. They will have to use their tools and abilities effectively to defeat the monster.
All Survivors' Starting Items
- Chris - Energy drink; Offers a short speed boost.
- Isaac - Camera; Temporarily stuns monster.
- Kate - Medkit; Allows her to heal downed players.
- Mabel - Ancient Book; Temporarily go invisible and move quicker.
- Taiga - Medkit; Allows her to heal downed players.
Each of the items has a limited number of uses. However, players can find items around the map to recharge them a little bit. Choose wisely when to use these abilities for survival. Players will also want to pick a character type based on what the others within their team have chosen to make the team well-rounded.
Survivor Mechanics and Strategies
There are a couple of standard options for different playstyles within the group. Roamers should play either Chris or Mabel as they'll be able to quickly skirt around as distractions, offer help to trapped players, or work on one of the machines. They are the best all-around types of options. Kate and Taiga are the main Medics and should be keeping a close eye on their team to work with Roamers and swoop in to heal the team when necessary. Lastly, Isaac makes a good defense-type character. He should be focused on fixing machines or protecting the medics as they heal others or themselves.
The Five Playable Monsters and their Abilities
There are five different monsters that the single enemy player can choose from. They are Akasha, Banshee, Granny, Igor, and Imposter. Each has a couple of special abilities to bring them up to speed and catch on to their disguised prey.
All Monster Abilities
- Akasha - He is mainly focused on moving and monitoring with his abilities Blade Dance, Blood Eye, and Shadow.
- Blade Dance - A damaging dash.
- Blood Eye - Leaves a monitoring eye where it is activated.
- Shadow - Increases speed but keeps them from attacking.
- Banshee - Her main focuses are on her AOE and sabotage with Curse, Flight, and Scream.
- Curse - Makes one propmachine more difficult to repair.
- Flight - Fly in any direction.
- Scream - Scream to deal damage within an AOE based around the Banshee.
- Granny - Granny is more of a stealth monster that strikes from the shadows with her abilities Astral, Mine, and Throw.
- Astral - Turns her invisible and increases her speed.
- Mine - Sets a ghost knife trap
- Throw - Throws a ghost knife to deal damage at a distance.
- Igor - This costumed monster almost exclusively on damage with his abilities Chainsaw Terror, Charge, and Soda Bomb.
- Chainsaw Terror - Quiets his chainsaw to stealthily move and attack.
- Charge - Damaging dash with the chainsaw.
- Soda Bomb - Creates a soda grenade that goes off shortly after being thrown.
- Imposter - This nightmarish individual focuses mainly on stealth with their abilities Overcharge, Prop, and Spy.
- Overcharge - Overcharges all unrepaired machines and increases his speed for each repaired one.
- Prop - Much like all of the survivors, Imposter can also shapeshift into inanimate objects.
- Spy - Another option to fit in is for him to disguise himself as one of the players.
These are all great options, however, players should try to make use of them when and where they can.
Monster Strategies
One of the harder decisions for players is choosing which monster they will play, as they cannot rely on a full team to support or back them. Instead, they will have to be the active strategist with each of the rounds. Now that we have all the information about their abilities, here are some great ways to utilize them.
These monsters are already somewhat split into two main types; the stealthy, and the aggressive. Stealthy options are the Granny and Imposter, with their abilities to manipulate the teams they are up against. Both will get a great vantage point on what the team is doing, as long as they can make themselves convincing.
Alternatively, the aggressive options here are Akasha, the Banshee, and Igor. Igor kind of fits between the two with his one stealth ability, however, the rest of the time he will be quite loud with his chainsaw in hand. These characters won't need to play friendly, instead just choose the right times to storm the castle with their monitoring abilities and dashes.

Propmachines and Hypnochairs
Lastly, players will need to know about how the Propmachine and Hypnochairs work within this world. Propmachines can be found around the maps as a bundle of clocks and steampunk pipes. Players will need to repair these continuously throughout the rounds, as repairing five machines will unlock an escape route. To do so, players will have to both activate the repair and pass a timed skill check. Landing somewhere within the highlighted section will pass it while landing in the white will speed up the repair. Alternatively, failing this check will overload the machine, causing it to bang and draw the attention of the monster.
Remember that while repairing the machines will unlock the route, players will still need to find and unlock these two doors. They are simply available to the players once they have done this. If players are caught at all during this, they will need to know more about Hypnochairs.
Hypnochairs are where survivors are stuck when downed by a monster. This is meant as both bait for the survivors, as well as a way to restore a team member. However, if a survivor is left on the chair for too long, they will die and be gone from the game entirely. For each time they are revived and end back in the chair, they will have less time to be rescued. On the third time that they are placed in the chair, they will have no time left to be revived. Survivors do have a small chance of wiggling themselves free, however, this can be quite difficult.
