Avalanche Software's Hogwarts Legacy takes place in 1890, according to a newspaper shown in the game's trailer. The newspaper is shown as September 1, 1890, which would mean the game takes place after the newspaper is printed. This would mean that the player came into the school probably after the fall since they're a late entry.

Albus Dumbledore, being born in 1881, isn't out of the picture. Dumbledore will not join Hogwarts until 1892, so we may see him at the end of the game or if the newspaper is old, maybe in the game itself. In 1892, the future headmaster will be a Gryffindor student taking his first steps in the wizarding world. Should this be the case, then Hogwarts Legacy will likely tie in with the events leading up to Grindelwald's rise to power.
Fantastic Beasts, which serves as a prequel to the Harry Potter series, is set during 1927. Because of this, the monster-obsessed protagonist Newt Scamander will be absent from the character roster, along with Grindelwald and other prominent wizards and witches.
