A PlayStation competitor to Xbox's Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate had been rumoured to be in the works for a while. Well, after a waiting period full of questions, it has finally been revealed that it is indeed happening. PlayStation players will be able to pay a little more, to get a lot more.
The new additions to PlayStation Plus will be coming in June 2022. So, not long to wait until you can start loading up your hard drive/SSD with some more titles!
A Closer Look at the New Tiers
The tier system allows players to have more choice across three tiers of PlayStation Plus. For casual gamers, they can stick to the lowest tier of PlayStation Plus which is the same as it has been for years. However, avid players can pay more and stock up on games.
PlayStation Plus Essential
This is the PlayStation Plus that you have known and loved for a while. It will stay at the same price and offers the same package as it has always done. For those that have yet to use PlayStation Plus, it offers:
- At least two games to download every month (sometimes three)
- Exclusive discounts for Plus members
- Cloud storage so you don't have to solely rely on physical saves
- Online multiplayer access
It is $9.99 a month, or $59.99 a year.

PlayStation Plus Extra
The new middle tier offers players the same package deal that you get with the Essential tier, but with the addition of a catalogue of games to choose from, much like Xbox gamers get with Game Pass. If you choose Extra you will get:
- Up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games to download whenever, and play while you are paying for the PS+ Extra membership. This includes some big-hitting blockbuster titles as well, not just indie games.
This will be $14.99 a month, or $99.99 a year.
PlayStation Plus Premium
The new top tier will provide you with everything from the lower tiers, but with quite a few added bonuses. This tier will definitely peak the interests of gamers who like to stream games. You will get:
- An additional 340 games on top of the 400 from the Extra tier
- Access to a cloud streaming service for PS3 games
- Access to a cloud streaming service for PS1, PS2, PSP and PS4 games, in places where PlayStation Now is available
- A retro catalogue of adored classics, which includes PS1, PS2 and PSP games that can be downloaded
- Time-limited game trials so that you can try games before you buy. Just like the good old days of demos
This will be $17.99 a month, or $119.99 a year.
