Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order: How to Customize Cal’s Poncho, Outfit, and BD-1

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order allows you to customize a fair amount of cosmetics for both Cal, and his useful pet BD-1. You can tweak the color and design of Cal’s poncho and outfit, as well as BD-1’s paint job. Of course, you can also dig deep into your lightsaber’s appearance, but we’ve covered that in another guide as it’s a lot more extensive. In this guide, we’ll detail how to tweak Cal and BD-1’s appearance and how to find and unlock the various new cosmetic options available to you.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order: Why Customize Cal and BD-1’s Appearance?

Cosmetic customization is a fun way to put your own stamp on Cal and BD-1’s appearance, and has no gameplay function whatsoever. Instead, it simply allows you to create a version of Cal that appeals more to you, over the default model. Besides, it’s a fun little addition that encourages you to explore and discover new cosmetic options, as they’re often hidden off the beaten track.

We’d like to reiterate that cosmetic upgrades don’t have any gameplay impact whatsoever. While Jedi: Fallen Order draws a lot of inspiration from Dark Souls, it isn’t as stat-heavy, so new lightsaber appearances, outfits, and ponchos won’t affect your damage and armor statistics whatsoever. Nor will BD-1’s appearance affect his abilities – it’s all purely cosmetic.

What Parts Can I Customize?

For Cal, you can customize his poncho, outfit, and lightsaber, though we won’t be covering the latter in this particular guide. BD-1’s customization mostly tweaks his paint job. It’s worth noting that the various different ponchos and outfits can vary from a simple paint job to a whole new design, so it’s worth taking a look at how Cal appears in every poncho and outfit you unlock so you can decide on your favorite.

How Can I Customize Cal and BD-1’s Appearance?

Press Options then R1 to reach the ‘Customization’ section of the main menu. Here you can use your left analogue to select between Cal’s poncho and outfit, and BD-1’s designs. To change a cosmetic option, press X on your desired part, then use the left analogue to select the cosmetic you want to equip. Then, press X again to equip it and hit options to get back into the game.

Where do I Get New Ponchos, Outfits, and BD-1 Designs?

Ponchos, outfits, and BD-1 designs, much like lightsaber parts, are kept inside chests that are dotted around the various different planets you visit. If customization is important to you, we’d recommend spending some time exploring off the beaten track to seek out hidden chests. It’s worth remembering that you can’t access all areas at the beginning of the game though, as you’ll need to unlock new abilities and force powers that can help you get around.

With that in mind, we’d recommend revisiting previous planets whenever you unlock a helpful new ability, as you might just find a new part or cosmetic that will complete the look that you’re aiming for.
