How do you use XL Candy in Pokémon Go?

All about finding and using XL Candies.

XL Candy becomes available later than most mechanics. To use XL Candies, players simply need to obtain them and power up their Pokémon. Once a Pokémon reaches a certain CP threshold, it will require XL Candy to power up further.

When can you use XL Candy in Pokémon Go?

The requirement for players to obtain XL Candy used to be level 40, but Niantic lowered that level requirement to 31. Once players reach level 31, they can start obtaining XL Candies. XL Candies allow players to power up Pokémon further than they could by using regular Candies alone. XL Candies are used 10 at a time at first. The amount required will slowly increase until a Pokémon is fully powered up. It will take 296 XL Candy to fully power a Pokémon up, on top of the regular Candy requirement.

How do you get XL Candy in Pokémon Go?

XL Candy is obtained randomly in the same way that players get regular Candy. This means catching, trading, hatching Eggs, walking with Buddy Pokémon, or even transferring Pokémon can result in XL Candy. While they are obtained in the same way as regular Candies, XL Candy is much harder to come by.
