Who is The Blight in Dead by Daylight lore?

Morbid curiosity does not always kill. Sometimes, it maims.

The Blight is a challenging Killer in Dead by Daylight who is known for his high mobility. While he's stalking around the map, upon glimpsing a Survivor, he can barrel toward them at breakneck speed. The Blight is rarely played, since his rush ability can be hard to control, but he is lethal in the right player's hands. In Dead by Daylight's lore, The Blight is a tragic tale of reckless ambition, another Icarus who flew too close to the sun. Here's an explanation of The Blight's lore in Dead by Daylight.

The Blight's lore, explained

Talbot Grimes heard the warnings before. He knew the poisonous foxglove would rend his intestines, filling his throat with bile and causing his stomach to desperately contract. The bell-shaped petals rung in his ears, calling to him like church bells that gather a congregation. He bit down on the flower, and the horrors began.

The warnings were true. The poison wracked his body and forced his systems into a survival state. Day after day, the foxglove ached to escape his flesh, and his skin became drenched in sweat. When relief finally came, Talbot was not afraid of the flower. He was entranced by it. He pursued the field of medicine, longing to work hands-on with natural killers like foxglove. He pushed the boundaries of chemistry, developing a solution that increased human productivity while decreasing the need for rest.

He was well-rewarded for his work, though rumors that his serums drove men mad relentlessly circulated. Talbot heard that some soldiers who took his concoction massacred innocent people. They couldn't possibly be true. He refused to take the blame. Talbot's creations brought him success, but they also brought enemies to his doorstep. A perpetrator knocked him out, blindfolded him, and stuffed him in a wagon.

Talbot awoke to a deathly stench. Decay crept into his lungs. His kidnapper took the blindfold off. Before him lay a mass grave, where hundreds of bodies had been tossed. The mysterious man claimed that he did this, his serums caused this. Talbot didn't believe him. The ghosts of his perceived success haunted him, eventually landing him in a dingy opium den. Nobody there understood him, they didn't know the miracle he created. His research journal was gone, the scribbled writings that convinced him he wasn't a madman. This was real.

Without the comfort of his journal, he picked up a rock from the ground and etched his findings on the wall. This breakthrough wasn't going to die with him. The world had to know. In a frantic bout, Talbot continued to carve his research until the wall was completely covered in text. When the wall was full, he turned to his own chest. In the midst of his frenzy, a vision appeared out of thin air. He saw a field of lively orange flowers and heard a voice drawing him forward. The whispers promised him knowledge beyond human limits, unrestrained by colleagues or morality. He stepped closer.

Talbot disappeared into the Mist. The only thing that remained was the scrawlings in the wall. They read, "Death Is Only the Beginning."
