Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the late 1800s, at the end of the 19th Century. More specifically, it takes place in the 1890s, giving Harry Potter fans a look into the series' past and history. This places it well before Harry Potter steps into Hogwarts and begins the beloved adventures fan love.
Throughout the game, fans receive nods and mentions of known characters, locations, and more. This includes Urg the Unclean, a leader in the infamous Goblin Rebellion, though it is Ranrok that is the primary antagonist for the Goblins. Fans will also recognize the Sorting Hat, though this is a younger and less patchy version.
Other mentions include Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black, Sirius Black's great-great-grandfather, Professor Matilda Weasley, a descendant of the Weasley family, and Nearly Headless Nick who still haunts the halls of Hogwarts. So despite not having the fan-favorite characters of Harry Potter, players will find both endearing new characters and throwbacks to the novels and films.
