Is there an end boss in Sons of the Forest?

No, the Sluggy is not the final boss!

Sons of the Forest is a survival horror game featuring many enemies that will keep you up at night, figuratively and literally. Some basic cannibals will initially be curious towards you, then proceed to be hostile to multiple-limbed mutants, which require some serious firepower to kill. There are even demon-like entities that you discover the more you approach the end of the game. But many players are left wondering: is there some powerful and yet unseen entity acting as the final boss to overcome? Let's find out.

Does Sons of the Forest have a final boss?

At the end of a hellish cave near the end of the Sons of the Forest storyline, players get to fight a giant Boss demon. Despite the fact that it looks just like any ordinary demon in the game, there's no mistaking it for a regular variant because of its enormous size. It takes quite a lot of work to bring it down, and you need to be well prepared and have several items to beat it successfully.

To survive an encounter with the Mutant Boss in lava caves behind the strange metallic doors with an arm indentation, you will need the following two items:

The demon mutants, which are also found in the cave, are the most challenging opponents in the game. They have fast attacks, using their poke attack with their hind legs like a scorpion or a combo of swipes with their arms. An encounter with a couple of large groups of demons will be the closest thing to a boss fight you will encounter in Sons of the Forest. They are tough to kill and can tear your armor to shreds quickly, so you'll need the Cross to set them on fire and the Golden Armor to keep you alive.

Does Sons of the Forest have an ending?

Sons of the Forest has three separate endings that you can get depending on your choice immediately after the sequence following the cave fight above. You can choose between two endings, and each one will get you a different achievement:

  • Board the Rescue Helicopter
  • Return for the backpack

If you choose the first ending, you will board the rescue chopper and leave the island. If you return for your yellow backpack, you will see the two men board the helicopter and leave without you. You will then stay on the island and be able to roam around freely.

You must have Kelvin and Virginia as your companions to trigger the secret ending. They must be alive and present when you enter the bunker complex leading to the Arm Doors.

During the cutscene where you enter the Golden Cube, Kelvin and Virginia will enter the room with you, and Virginia will convulse and pass out in your arms when the vision of an alien city appears. If you choose to board the helicopter, both of your companions will board with you, and you will unlock the secret ending where you all survive.
