You won’t find your Octopuff investor in Montwise. This is a town of scholars. The man you’re looking for is having the time of his life in Conning Creek (Harborlands). He hangs out in the local tavern. Allure (Agnea) or Guide (Temenos) him to Montwise. Speak with the Octopus Researcher again to complete the quest. The Octopus Enthusiast will agree to fund the research after seeing a picture of an Octopuff, calling it “cute.”

The researcher will reward you with an Octopuff Pot for your efforts—an accessory that increases the chances of an Octopuff appearing in battle. If you haven’t seen one, they’re orange-colored Octopi that drop a lot of EXP when defeated. They flee quickly though!
