Wartales Max Party Size & Optimal Size

There ain't no party like a Wartales party.

Wartales is a squad-based medieval RPG featuring turn-based combat. This begs the question, what is the maximum party size in Wartales, and what is the optimal size?

You start with a party of four but can add and lose members along the way, as long as you’re earning enough money and finding enough food to pay and feed them all. Equally, you can dismiss your companions and head out alone. Read on for the details.

How big can your party be in Wartales?

Technically speaking, your party can be as large as you want it to be in Wartales. We’ve seen players experimenting with more than 30 companions, including beasts and ponies. This means you can scale it to suit your play style.

What is the optimal party size in Wartales?

The key thing you need to consider is whether you’re playing in Adaptive or Region-Locked mode. Depending on the choice you make when you start playing, your party size decision needs to take different things into account.

Wartales Adaptive mode party size

If playing in Adaptive Mode, each extra companion will add to the size of your opponent’s party when you enter each battle. This means you can keep adding party members as you please, but it will simply make battles longer and more complex rather than easier.

This is a great choice if you want to play with a small party throughout the game, as it will also keep battles short. However, using a small party size will also limit the number of crafting options available to you unless you constantly switch between them, or ignore some entirely.

Wartales Region-locked mode party size

If you’re playing Region-Locked, the enemies you’ll face are set in terms of size and difficulty, so adding more companions should make battles easier. However, you will be paying and feeding them more, so will need to be sure to earn enough money and craft enough food to keep everyone happy.

Even if you over-level for battles, you'll start to need a large party size in later regions on Region-locked mode. Battles in some parts of Drombach and the Belerion Archipelago (in the DLC) see you facing off against more than 20 enemies who have level 10 or higher stats and gear.
