How to defeat Svarog in Final Fantasy 16

Those fireballs are LETHAL.

Svarog is a gigantic dragon you can fight in Sanbreque after the events in the new capital city. At level 50, it’s extremely powerful, with the ability to one-shot Clive with just one of its fireballs. It certainly doesn’t help that dragons have thick hides, so the fight can take forever. Here’s how to beat one of Final Fantasy XVI’s most notorious hunts.

Beating Svarog isn’t the issue—it’s staying alive long enough to see its HP reduced to 0. I found that the best way to deal with it is to stay close to it as much as possible. This allows you to avoid the big balls of floating fire it throws out (two hits from those WILL kill you) and increases your chances of avoiding the fireballs it rains down from the sky.

Any of its melee attacks that land on you will hurt, but not as much as the fire it throws out. Trust me.

An ability I like to spam to improve my survivability is Will-o-the-Wykes (Ifrit). It can cancel a couple of attacks and reduce the damage of any attack you receive while it’s up. Don’t forget to upgrade it and equip The Grace of the Inferno (accessory) to increase its duration. Always put it up whenever it’s fully charged.

Will-o-the-Wykes cancels if you receive too many direct hits, so dodging and avoiding Svarog’s attacks is still best. Will-o-the-Wykes is your “just in case.”

If you want to play it safe, take the Impulse (Bahamut) ability with you. It deals passive damage! It’s not strong enough to end the battle immediately, but at least you won’t always be pressured to constantly hit Svarog with a sword.
