I've always enjoyed playing a Ranger, and Baldur's Gate 3 has made this class more fun than ever. Between Beast Master and the number of enchanted arrows I've found, there have been few obstacles that can stand in my way. However, I attribute this to my build, so let's take a look at what I consider the best Ranger build in Baldur's Gate 3.
Best Ranger Build in Baldur's Gate 3
Rangers are typically a ranged class due to their mastery of the bow; they can also conjure up animals, adding to your list of companions. There are many different ways to create your Ranger, but we'll look at one of the best.
Best Stats and Race for Ranger in Baldur's Gate 3
A Ranger's most important stats are Dexterity and Wisdom, followed by Constitution. Rangers excel at ranged combat and rely on Wisdom for their spellcasting ability and many of their skills. While Rangers won't see direct combat, having a high Constitution increases their HP and helps them on concentration saves.
Wood Elf is the best class for Ranger, immediately granting proficiency in Stealth and Perception and increasing your base movement speed. These are all important skills for a Ranger to have, making this race an easy choice.

Best Subclass for Ranger Baldur's Gate 3
Beast Master is the best subclass for Ranger simply due to the fact you get an animal companion to assist you in combat. Adding an additional ally to your party increases your action economy, making it an incredibly powerful tool.
Hunter and Gloomstalker are both extremely valid options; they are just edged out by the beast companion. But depending on your playstyle, either of these subclasses are great alternatives. With the Patch 3, I recommend picking the spider as your companion, as the Web DC has been fixed. Trapping enemies in Web leaves them stuck and easy to pick off with arrows.
Best Skills for Ranger in Baldur's Gate 3
Rangers can get a variety of skills, but most will deal with nature. The best skills for a Ranger are Athletics, Acrobatics, Survival, Animal Handling, Perception, Stealth, and Nature. You likely won't be able to take all of these, so choose the ones that suit your play style, the character you are roleplaying, and fill in gaps in your party. I prefer making my Ranger more attuned to nature, so I opt for skills that reflect this.
Best Ranger Features and Feats - Baldur's Gate 3
There are several feats that benefit a Ranger, most of which revolve around combat, as Rangers have a good skill spread otherwise. Ability Score Improvement is always a good choice to increase your stats, especially Dexterity; Alert ensures you can act quicker in initiative order, and Mobile increases your movement speed and helps you disengage. Finally, Sharpshooter is one of the best feats for Ranger, due to the increased damage.
