How to join all factions in Starfield

The UC wants you!

When you start playing, you'll realize there are quite a few opportunities to align yourself with different groups and even religions in Starfield. While religions may be exclusive about who can join, factions do not pose the same restrictions. Here's how to join every faction in Starfield.

How do you join all of the factions in Starfield?

Joining each faction in Starfield will be done under different circumstances. There's no way to join them all simultaneously, so you'll have to find and complete missions for each faction separately. Thankfully, most of the quests and activities required by different factions are straightforward and easy to complete.

Can you be part of all Starfield factions at once?

There is technically no conflict with joining all factions at once in Starfield. That being said, we can't guarantee that being a part of all factions at once will run smoothly. This is because they tend to conflict with each other morally, so you may find yourself upsetting one or more factions when you complete activities for another. Overall, you shouldn't run into too many issues with being part of all of the factions at one time.

How to be part of Freestar Collective in Starfield

To join the space-Western group of the Freestar Collective, you'll first need to complete The Empty Nest questline with Sam Coe. After helping with the bank robbery and hostages (and finishing the quest while you're at it), head to Freestar Collective HQ and speak to Emma Wilcox. Thankfully, you won't have to go too far since the Freestar Collective HQ is in a building called the Rock in Akila.

Once at the headquarters, tell Emma Wilcox that you want to join the Freestar Collective and become a Ranger. After that, you'll be required to complete a few quests that they give you before you can officially join the Freestar Collective Rangers. After that, you're free to officially become a member!

How do you join the United Colonies in Starfield?

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

The militaristic and regimented faction of The United Colonies is one of the most straightforward groups you can join. Like The Constellation, the United Colonies also centers themselves in New Atlantis. The UC headquarters is the MAST building in the MAST district (same as The Lodge), making it simple to find.

After you reach the MAST building, find UC Lieutenant John Tuala. He is usually standing behind one of the counters immediately inside the HQ lobby. Talk to Tuala and tell him you'd like to join the UC. He'll give you several tests and missions to complete before you can officially join. Make sure to set aside some time, as I found this to be one of the more time-consuming factions to join.

How to be part of Crimson Fleet in Starfield

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

If you're looking for a less morally upstanding group to join, the Crimson Fleet faction is your best option. There are three main ways you can initiate joining the Crimson Fleet. First, you can be part of the United Colonies until you complete their Deep Cover quest. Secondly, you could try simply to smuggle in contraband to Jemison. Third, try committing a crime in Jemison/New Atlantis (do not kill someone, this will get you killed by UC security).

Either way, doing any of these three actions will allow you to speak with Commander Kibwe Ikande of the UC. He will offer a prison sentence, but you should deny this in favor of a mission to attack the Crimson Fleet. The Deep Cover quest will ask you to be an undercover agent for UC, but you can choose to go rogue.

Going rogue is not a direct action necessarily, but rather completing the next two quests that the Crimson Fleet tasks you with finishing up. After this, you will officially added to their ranks. If you want, you can even stay a member of the UC.

How do you join Ryujin Industries in Starfield?

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Looking for a faction that is less political and more financially motivated? Ryujin Industries will suit you best. To join them, head over to Neon and complete the Back to the Grind quest. You can access this quest by finding a red Ryujin Industries kiosk in any major city or in the Ryujin building in Neon. At the kiosk, fill out a job application.

After filling out an application, go to the Ryujin Industries building in Neon to complete your interview. While you don't have to answer all of the interview questions correctly in order to join the faction/job, it's still good to be thoughtful of your responses. Finally, you'll be asked to go on a coffee run with a twist as your last action before joining Ryujin Industries. Afterward, you'll be officially enrolled.

How do you join the Constellation in Starfield?

The space exploration faction Constellation is not really a faction you have to worry about joining. This is because when you start playing Starfield, the main questline will lead you to join the Constellation. All you have to do is continue on the main mission after Barrett's ship leads you to the abandoned lab, and then to the Lodge in New Atlantis. Afterward, you'll be inducted into the faction and asked to join a quest with Sarah.

Other Factions in Starfield

While the major factions that you can actually join will surely be more than enough to fill your time and entertain you, it's still beneficial to know who else is out there. While traversing galaxies, there are a few other groups you'll come across or hear about. These are all other factions in Starfield that you cannot join or officially be a part of:

  • Argos Extractors
  • Ecliptic Mercenaries
  • Spacers
  • Trade Authority
  • Xenofresh Corporation
