Modern Warfare 3 Zombies story & lore, explained

After a series of teases, the developers finally released the first cinematic trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies. It's the first Zombies game set in the Modern Warfare universe in which Task Force 141 will join everyone's favorite, Ravenov, to investigate and secure the exclusion zone.

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Story Explained

The trailer begins with a night-time military raid at an unknown location, possibly the next Warzone and Zombies map. The operation is led by the ultranationalist Viktor Zakhaev, who apparently didn't die after Captain Price threw him down the nuke silo during the conclusion of the MW 2019 story.

The operatives breach into a room where four decomposed bodies are found seated around a table. One of the people involved in the ritual seems to be Weaver, a former member of the CIA Special Activities Division. Viktor then picks up and secures two vials from the device on the table.

While trying to retreat, the operatives are met with fierce resistance from the local police. Most of Viktor's men are shot dead, and he himself is pinned down. He then decides to throw one of the vials on the ground and somehow makes it to his squad vehicle. You can then see the horror unfold as the contents of the vial spread and raise the dead.

Viktor escapes with a grin on his face as his plan is successful. In the next scene, you're briefed about the situation by Kate Laswell and Soap MacTavish, but that's not it. You're led into Operation Deadbolt by Captain Sergei Ravenov, a familiar face last seen in Black Ops Cold War, but older.

I have high hopes for the upcoming Zombies game, especially after watching this well-put trailer. In MWZ, you'll be fighting against Zombies as well as the PMC Terminus Outcomes, hired by Zakhaev. There will also be other squads on the map that you can team up with to complete missions. By the way, if you pre-order Modern Warfare 3, you'll receive the Zombie skin for Ghost on September 27 for MW2, Warzone, and subsequently, MW3.
