How to spot Mimics in Lords of the Fallen

Can you spot the mimic in this image?

If you're like me, then you're absolutely sick of being eaten by Lords of the Fallen's monstrous mimics. I can't tell you how many times I've been eaten by one of these things trying to loot an area. They deal enough damage to one shot, even after stacking up on Vitality, which is ridiculous in itself. However, what if I told you there is a way to spot a mimic and stop in its tracks? Interested? Then keep reading.

How to see Mimics in Lords of the Fallen

Believe it or not, the method to spot an active mimic is really simple. As you probably already know, Mimics take the shape of an inconspicuous item you instinctively want to go loot. Instead of succumbing to the allure, slow down and take a very close look at the item in question. Be sure you're clear of any nearby enemies while you do this, or you may accidentally loot the item in the midst of everything, and be eaten. I also recommend staying out of Umbral for this reason.

Look closely at the yellowish-gold trail the item is giving off above it. An item that is just an item will show a simple flowing motion, swaying from left to right with a basic rhythmic form. Items that are mimics, instead, will show an erratic, with no clear rhyme or reason. It is wild, untamed, and exists outside of the norm. If you see this, you've got a mimic on the prowl.

How to kill Mimics in Lords of the Fallen

One thing you should know is mimics are harboring items you're going to want. I've gotten valuable stuff from them before, like a Vestige Seeding, for example. So do you pick them up with the mimic there? You kill it, of course, using the soulflaying technique from your Umbral Lamp.

While you can't target a mimic specifically, you can still get right in front of it without it attacking you. Do this, and attempt to soulflay the item you think is a mimic. If it is, the mimic will be instantly sucked out of the item and it will become safe for collection. Don't worry. Once this happens, the mimic isn't an actual enemy to fight; Soulflaying just kills it instantly.
