Zombies have become a staple mode in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare series and are making a comeback in MW3 as Operation Deadbolt, much to my joy. But many people have been wondering, will the Zombie mode also be free in this iteration, or will we have to pay to play?
Can you play Zombies for free in MWZ?
Unfortunately, MW3 Zombies will not be free to play. You will have to purchase the main Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 game to gain access to Modern Warfare 3 Zombies mode as well. As much as it is a nuisance, especially if you have to purchase the entire game just to play a single mode, you will be pleased to know the famous horror game mode received a major overhaul.

The new Zombies mode is now an amalgamation of the ever-popular DMZ mode, now infested with a full-on zombie outbreak called Operation Deadbolt. Players will participate in an extraction shooter type of gameplay as the mode eschews the traditional round-based system in favor of the loot-and-shoot dynamics the DMZ mode provides. This innovation presents quite a tempo switch and a true refreshment that I really enjoyed, as I'm sure most players will.
A single Zombies mode round will last for 45 minutes until the extraction countdown begins. During this time, players will be free to complete objectives in an area, looting for resources and unlocking field upgrades in the process. Once the countdown reaches zero, all teams must evacuate to successfully complete the Operation Deadbolt storyline.
