Smite 2 Crossplay and Cross progression, explained

It's tough to lose so much progress at this point...

Smite 2 is taking the popular third-person MOBA and bringing it to the current gen built on Unreal Engine 5. If you're wondering what that means for all the progress you made with the original version, then you've come to the right place—here's everything you need to know about crossplay and cross progression in Smite 2.

How does Smite 2 crossplay and cross progression work?

To put it simply, Smite 2 will have crossplay across PC, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. That's pretty much a staple of gaming today, so it should come as no surprise to see a new release have the feature.

What's a bit murkier, however, is whether or not we'll be seeing cross-progression. As it stands right now, the Smite developers are banking on it, but are awaiting "final approval" from their partners to see if it'll happen. It's tough to envision a world where cross-progression doesn't happen, considering how much time many people have spent building up their accounts, but stranger things have happened.

When does Smite 2 come out?

Smite 2 currently has no release date, but the developers confirmed alpha testing will begin later in 2024. It will be missing many of the features that will be released with the final game, and the roster of characters will be smaller.

While this is a sequel, it will play similarly to the original Smite, so you shouldn't have to feel like you're learning a brand new game. The developers said combat will feel more impactful, and you'll be able to add more strategy into the game with the sequel. The alpha tests will give you a taste of what to expect before the official launch. It will be a free-to-play title once it is released.
