There are quite a few similarities between Wuthering Waves and Genshin, from the art style to the UI design to the items, story, and even terminology. However, WuWa does manage to stand out and shine in several areas, especially in combat.
The combat in this fun RPG isn't just hack and slash and hope for the best (though I do play it like that sometimes when I am in a hurry). There should be a strategy, first based on team composition and then on the abilities of each individual schedule.
On top of that, you need to also think about special in-game mechanics like dodge and block, as well as counterattack. It's great that the game rewards you for figuring out the timing of an enemy attack with the ability to hit back even harder. And it's not just with your weapon; you can also counterattack enemy special skills with specific Echo skills.
You also have the ability to immobilize the enemy by depleting its Vibration Strength. There is a lot to think about when in a fight, but once you've figured it out, it becomes very satisfying. Chaining attacks as well is my favorite thing to do and a fun way to give your characters a damage boost.
One of the most unique aspects of combat that WuWa has added is shapeshifting. The ability to turn into an Echo and enact an attack with their power is thrilling, and I love it. I'm also excited that Kuro Games has mentioned that they will add more shapeshifting Echoes in the future.
While a lot of praise goes to combat and the various mechanics included in every battle, I also have to praise the number of different puzzles and challenges I have encountered. I honestly did not expect so much variety from the game, yet I keep getting challenged over and over again.
As we all progress in the game, it will become increasingly difficult to encounter and explore new mechanics. However, from what I've seen so far, I am positively hopeful that we will receive more interesting updates to the world and gameplay in future updates.
