While Marvel Rivals was off to a great start in Ranked Season 1 with some complaints about balancing issues, but not a lot overall, Ranked Season 2 is another story altogether, especially for Strategists. If you've been playing the game recently, specifically Competitive mode, you might have noticed a lack of people who want to play Support.
The players are calling it the Marvel Rivals Great Strategist Strike and there are several reasons why this is happening. First, the biggest problem is the change in how the rank up system works. Right now it seems to be that Final Hits and overall good stats (in Damage, Defense and Healing) is more valued in Marvel Rivals competitive play.
For example, you'll get more points playing as Sue who has a more varied kit. On the other hand, if you're playing Rocket, you'll most likely see yourself getting anything from 13 to 20 Ranked Points, which is nothing (sending positive vibes to that one no damage Rocket Player). Compared to the bigger numbers you get when playing DPS, and the even bigger Point reduction Strategists experience when they lose playing this role is very unsatisfying right now. You can heal the entire match and have the most heals and assists and you'll still get scraps for Points.
Another big change in the game is one or multiple nerfs across the board for all Strategists. At a time when the Dive meta is so prevalent, reducing the Healers abilities is very counterproductive. Especially since Iron Fist got even more buffs. He can somehow already fly like a helicopter just from the speed of his fists, did he really need the buffs?
On top of the actual game changes, the community has shifted into dangerous toxic levels as well, especially from the DPS mains. There isn't a match where I don't get flamed for not healing when that person is having a 1v4 at the enemy spawn, and I'm on point with the rest of the team trying to complete the objective of the game and win. It doesn't matter if you end up having the most heals and even the most kills, and sometimes even more damage than the DPS. The 0-5 Spider-Man is for sure going to blame you if you lose.
Popular streamers (read DPS mains) have contributed to the hate towards Strategists as well. They're claiming that it is the easiest role, while throwing some pretty terrible insults around. I guess every DPS and Tank who thinks like that should learn very quickly where the health packs are and wait in queue for them, because the Strategists are taking none of it.
You're lucky if you find one person who wants to play Support in this Ranked Point economy, let alone two. At this point, it's smarter to stack with your friends and switch out who is playing Support in different rounds so that you can all get points and not get outranked. Overall, it's not a great situation. Hopefully, NetEase will take note of the issues and make some changes that will provide a good balance, and not just favor one role over the other.
