Ultron is an upcoming Strategist Hero joining the roster of Marvel Rivals on May 30, 2025 as part of the Season 2.5 update. He is the first flying Strategist, perfect for healing your Duelists in the sky as well as giving you a lot of maneuverability to disengage with enemies. This playstyle is also great for supporting teammates who love getting away from the point in Marvel Rivals with his flight and long-range abilities.
Whether you've found a new Strategist pick, or if you just want to prepare against the flying Hero, we will cover everything you need to know about Marvel Rivals Ultron in our guide, including his abilities, best gameplay strategists, team comps as well as effective counters. Make sure to read all of our Ultron practical advice to prepare for when Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 launches. Keep in mind that this is a pre-release guide, and that we will update you with more information as soon as the update drops!
Who Is Ultron in Marvel Rivals and Why Is He Important?
Ultron is a Strategist Hero in Marvel Rivals added in Season 2.5 on May 30, 2025. So far, Marvel Rivals has committed to continuous updates, and as a fan, I am definitely overjoyed that we are yet again seeing a new character in the half-point of the season.
This is the first flying Strategist, which, along with that dash ability, will make him an excellent counter against divers. It also helps that he has plenty of damage as well. You can expect to see plenty of him as soon as the half season drops.
In the Marvel Rivals universe, after being exiled to the stars, Ultron is back and has enacted a surprise attack during the Hellfire Gala on Krakoa. He's managed to steal Cerebro and is ready to take over humanity.
In our guide, you'll learn how to take on your enemies and make the world a better place, or how to join with the mutants of Krakoa (and other heroes of course), to defend against such evil.
What Is Ultron's Role in Marvel Rivals?
As a Strategist with a flying ability, Ultron will be part of a lot of team compositions in the upcoming season, especially considering how prevalent the dive meta has been (the Great Strategist Strike of 2025 showed us that).
How Does Ultron Fit into the Strategist Class?
You might think Strategists are just healers in Marvel Rivals, but there is so much more than that, especially with characters like Ultron and Loki who have kits that can cause plenty of damage. It's a strategy game on what you'll do at any given moment, and one wrong move can lead to an entire team wipe.
The evil peacemaker whose goal is to wipe out humanity has an abundance damage, but let me tell you, he is great for both healing as well. It's important to note that Ultron shouldn't be your only and primary Healer. The best way to play Ultron is as a Duelist/Strategist combo, which means he needs another support to pick up the slack.
His long-range (and I really do mean long-range) laser should be utilized to deal with enemies in the back (other Strategists as well as flyers that are causing issues to your teammates) while his drones are doing the healing. Of course, you're the one that has to direct them where to go, so it's imperative you are keeping an eye on your teammates' health while also taking a chunk off of enemies' health. His Ultimate is also a perfect hybrid, dealing damage to the opponents while your teammates get the heals.
What Makes Ultron Different from Other Strategists?

We can finally fly! Ultron is the first Strategist in Marvel Rivals (hopefully one of many), that can take to the skies! Not only that, but he also has a dash ability that allows him to quickly escape when in danger from other flyers, and yes, I do include Iron Fist in this.
Ultron is designed for long-range, whether it be his laser attacks or his drones. You can position yourself safely further in the back and still contribute greatly to the team. The drones go where you point them to, and they are essentially Ultron's little healers. You can focus them on a specific teammate or on yourself with different abilities to give health boosts.
Overall, he is more like a Loki style Strategist, rather than your Jeff, Cloak & Dagger or Rocket. All three should also do damage (unless you're NoDamageRocket, then you're excused), but for Ultron it's more prevalent, especially since his drones are doing the heals and you are free to focus on the enemies.
Why Is Ultron's Flying Ability a Game Changer?
There's a big joke that many people just don't look up. That's how flyers are able to do plenty of damage at times. A good team will always be taking out the heroes in the air first.
With Ultron, you can now have a Healer/Damage hybrid in the air. This allows for even greater map visibility, which is extremely important to Strategists. He can now focus on other flyers (teammates and enemies), while also keeping an eye on what's happening below.
Of course, like I said, if you're going against a knowledgeable team, then you're in danger of getting shot down from the air by other long-range heroes. You're a sitting (flying) duck in the air. Try not to stay in one spot for too long and get cover if possible. Utilize your dash ability to the max and dive down to your teammates on the ground if you need help.
What Are Ultron's Abilities in Marvel Rivals?
As with any hero in Marvel Rivals, Ultron has four basic abilities, one Ult as well as one Team-Up ability.
Name | Controls | Description |
---|---|---|
Encephalo-Ray | LMB | Fire off a long-range laser beam |
Dynamic Flight | Shift | Quick dash in a direction |
Imperative: Patch | E | Have a drone follow an ally to heal that ally as well as any others in the vicinity |
Imperative: Firewall | RMB | Summon drones to grant Bonus Health to allies in the vicinity of Ultron and the ally with Imperative: Patch |
Nano Ray (Stark Protocol) Iron Man/Ultron Team Up ability | C | Upgraded LMB attack to both damage enemies and heal teammates. |
How Does Ultron's Encephalo-Ray (Primary Fire) Work?
Ultron's Encephalo-Ray is a laser style Primary Fire similar to the likes of Tony's Unibeam and Emma's Telepathic Pulse. Both Tony's and Emma's lasers last longer compared to Ultron's short bursts, but his beam attack has a much larger range than either of them do.
Because of this, you are able to stay further away while taking out enemies. Target other Strategists, stragglers in the back and even other heroes in the air if your teammates haven't taken them out yet.
How Can You Use Dynamic Flight Effectively?
While you are constantly flying, Dynamic Flight is an additional dash ability which allows Ultron to quickly disengage from danger, or even towards it if your teammates need help. The ability does go on a cooldown after a while, so don't just spam it all the time.
If your team has another Strategist (or two) in the backline with the rest of your team, you should definitely join up with your Duelist and Vanguard flankers to keep them safe as well as destroy any enemy stragglers. So far, keeping flankers and divers alive has been a big issue for Strategists as they have to make a choice whether to follow them or stay on point. With Ultron, you have a lot more mobility, meaning that you can follow them, and make it back alive by using your flight combined with the dash.

How Does Imperative: Patch Healing Work?
Imperative: Patch healing is the most similar to Luna's Idol, though with a certain twist. Placing a drone on an ally will work as an AoE heal for that ally as well as any others that are inside the dome of effect. It will follow an ally, so you'll want to place it on someone with multiple people around them. The best choices are Vanguards on point or even other supports. If you see flankers getting destroyed, you can also send out the drone to them in emergencies.
What is the Best Way to Use Imperative: Firewall?
Imperative: Firewall is best used in combination with Imperative: Patch. If you don't have a drone on someone, then you'll want to immediately send it out so that you can get the best shield output. Firewall provides shields for teammates that are near Ultron or near the person with Imperative: Patch. This way you'll get double shielding. To get the most out of this ability, go to allies that aren't covered by the Patch AoE healing.
How Powerful is Ultron's Ultimate Ability (Rage of Ultron)?
The Ult(ron) is powerful, dealing both continuous damage and healing to other Marvel Rival characters. Ultron summons a pack of his Drones and deals a good bit of AoE damage/healing. However, Rage of Ultron doesn't last too long and it isn't as big of an AoE as some others like Luna (who is still dominating the meta in higher ranks), so he doesn't have as big of a healing output.
Like I said, he is best played with at least one, but preferably in a three Strategists comp. This way he can provide the additional healing, while also working as a part-time Duelist.
What is Ultron's Team-Up Ability with Iron Man?
The Stark Protocol is Ultron's team-up with Iron Man, a change after removing Tony from the Gamma Charge team-up with Hulk and Namor. While Ultron was created by Hank Pym in the comics, he was created by Stark in the MCU, which makes him the best team-up option (as Pym isn't a playable character in the game).
- Iron Man is the anchor which means he gets 5% on damage output.
- Ultron gets a new ability called Nano-Ray, with an increased damage output along with a healing ability.
The best way to play Ultron is certainly in a team-up with Tony, as you can increase his healing output this way, making him more valuable in a two-Strategist comp.
How Do You Play Ultron Effectively?
The best Ultron team composition is going to be three Strategists, but he can put in the work in two Strategist ones as well. Here's exactly how you can get the most out of this villainous character.
What is the Best Positioning for Ultron in Team Fights?
Considering his flight abilities Ultron is best positioned up high above the teammates. His long-range attack also allows you to keep pushing while staying relatively safe. However, you can easily be shot down if you are just out in the open. Try to get behind cover like a building or behind a pillar.
If you've got divers on your team and good Strategist support, then a good idea is to actually follow them to the backline and take out the enemy supports.
How Do You Balance Healing and Damage as Ultron?
Your primary as Ultron should be dealing as much damage as possible, but you can't forget about healing.
- Place Imperative: Patch on a teammate that's sticking around others (either Vanguard or other Strategists), and keep an eye on the team's health while taking care of enemies.
- If you see that your Strategist teammates are getting dived, you should protect them with damage and healing.
- Support flankers while the other Strategists remain with the rest of the team to help them take out the backline without having to go look for a health pack.
- When shielding with Firewall, prioritize teammates that aren't covered in the Patch AoE healing circle.
- Ultron's Ult doesn't have a big healing output, but you can apply both that and damage in situations when plenty of teammates and enemies are on a point.
When Should You Be Aggressive vs. Defensive with Ultron?
While Ultron is a Strategist, your Drones will be doing a lot of the defensive aspect, specifically the Patch healing drone. Focus on dealing long-range damage, but you really need to keep an eye on your teammates' health. If you think that they are in the danger of getting wiped, then you should provide them with as much support as possible, both in the form of damage as well as shielding.
His Ult isn't that powerful when it comes to healing, so prioritize wiping the other team with boosted AoE damage. However, if your teammates are in the fray as well and near enemies, make sure to spray them with some friendly healing bullets too.
As I mentioned before, Ultron will work best in a three-Strategists kind of comp. Luna and Loki have good synergies with him and they are at the top of the meta, but you can also switch them out with Rocket or Cloak & Dagger in some situations. When it comes to duelists, other aerial characters like Iron Man, Storm and the Human Torch should be your picks. On the other hand, divers like Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Black Panther, Captain America and Venom will get a lot of benefit from his mobility and long-range heals.
How Do You Support Diving Teammates as Ultron?
There are two ways you can support diving teammates as Ultron. You can either join in on the flank and deal plenty of damage while using both your Patch and Firewall to keep them alive. Or you can send out just the Imperative: Patch drone with them while you stay high for visibility. In this case, you can move in to help them in case of emergency.
When diving, Vanguards like Captain America, Hulk and Thor are the go-to choices, while Duelists like Iron Fist and Spider-Man will really enrage your enemy team. Keep them alive, but don't forget about the point.
Which Heroes Work Best with Ultron?

While you can play as any character you want in Marvel Rivals, you really do want to think about synergy between heroes (or you risk getting destroyed).
What is the Stark Protocol Team-Up with Iron Man?
Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 has made changes to the Team-Up roster, including the addition of the Stark Protocol, a team-up between Iron Man and Ultron. As the anchor, Iron Man himself is getting a 5% damage boost, which is significant but not the important part of this duo.
It's Ultron's new ability Nano-Ray that really makes this team-up beneficial. While Ultron's M1 is only an attack, this new laser type will both cause damage to enemies and heal teammates. It burns through enemy health, but it does have a longer cooldown, so you should manage it properly.
Along with the fact that they've removed the Iron Man/Hulk team-up which gave Tony the Gamma Ray ability, this is now a very important combo when choosing Iron Man as a hero.
Which Vanguards Synergize Best with Ultron?
Both on-point and flanker Vanguards can synergize with Ultron because of his flight ability, which makes him a pretty useful hero pick. When it comes to on-point, place a Patch drone onto Groot or Emma.
Vanguards on their own already have great survivability, but you can make them even more annoying to the enemy backline when flanking with the Patch drone. Here's some flankers that he can work with below:
- Captain America
- Venom
- Thor
Which Flankers Benefit Most from Ultron's Support?
All Flankers benefit the most from Ultron's Support, as the ranged kit really allows for healing which they might not have gotten otherwise. That means that flankers won't have to wait in a queue at the closest health pack. Since they move in and out of the backline fast, it's very important that you communicate and coordinate attacks. Use Ultron's Dynamic Flight to keep up with them and get out of danger if you see that a dive is failing. The best flankers to support are:
- Spider-Man
- Black Panther
- Iron Fist
How Do You Counter Ultron?
While Ultron may not be in every match, you know you'll see him a lot especially at the start of Season 2.5 of Marvel Rivals. Here's everything you need to know to take him out.
What are Ultron's Biggest Weaknesses?
Much like other aerial units, if you're playing against a good team, you'll know that Ultron can be an easy target. If you're a Duelist/Vanguard/Strategist with long-range, your priority should always be Ultron and/or other characters in the air.
Which Heroes Counter Ultron Most Effectively?
If your aiming is top notch, this is your time to shine. Hawkeye, Hela, and Namor are the Duelist picks, and Luna can take out Ultron while doing a bunch of healing. Cloak & Dagger with their semi auto aim are also a choice you can go with. Despite not having an official ability to fly, Iron Fist can also somehow glide through the air, which makes him another counter to Ultron (and any other flying pick honestly).
How Will Ultron Impact the Marvel Rivals Meta?
As the first flying Strategist, Ultron will definitely have an effect on the current Marvel Rivals meta. If you weren't looking up before, you will have to now.
Does Ultron Counter the Current Dive Meta?
Ultron is a counter to the current dive meta in Marvel Rivals. For starters, you can't actually dive him with many of the characters, unless you are Spider-Man, Venom and of course, Iron Fist, but even that is more difficult. If he does get dived, his Dynamic Flight can take him to safety. However, if you prefer fight to flight, Ultron's lasers can take on even the hardiest of enemies. And if you do solo Ult on Iron Fist, no one has to know, I won't judge.
Frequently Asked Questions About Ultron in Marvel Rivals
Ultron will be added to Marvel Rivals on May 30, 2025 for the mid Season update (Season 2.5). Each season is around three months long, with a mid-season patch that has so far added new characters, maps, skins and rewards.
Ultron is a very beginner-friendly Strategist. Drone placement, laser output and even his ult aren't difficult to get the grasp of.
Ultron doesn't have any CC abilities. You can argue that his Ult can be used to shift the tides over in some cases, but you have to be really strategic in how you use. Best times would be with multiple enemies and teammates nearby.
The regular Battle Pass will last until Season 3, which means that no new additions will be added to it. However, Season 2.5 is adding Battle Chests, a new reward system that is essentially a free mini-Battle Pass with a Magneto Ultron Virus skin. While sadly it isn't an Ultron skin, you can rock a cool Magneto x Ultron combo. Ultron will get skins in future Battle Passes as well as in the Store.
