Sam Lake outlines everything players can expect from Alan Wake 2

Everything we know so far about the Poet of the Fall!

Alan Wake emerged more than a decade ago, changing how we view the horror genre. Its revolutionary, novella-worthy story set new standards in the industry and, naturally, has left us wanting much more! The first title has inspired me so much that I eagerly took in all the information Sam Lake released during the Summer Game Fest regarding Alan Wake 2! According to him, here is what we can expect from the sequel to the writer's story.

Alan Wake 2 interview with Sam Lake during the Summer Game Fest

Sam Lake shared much information with Geoff in a five-minute interview regarding Alan Wake 2 during the Summer Game Fest, uncovering more about the game's ever-expanding storyline. He also spoke more about the involvement of a second new protagonist, Saga, where he says: "…We have two playable characters; it's a 50/50 split between them. They are on their own separate, terrifying journeys through two different worlds, and yet… it's all connected, and the player gets to switch between them at given points in the story as they choose," further emphasizing their connection.

He also explained Saga's involvement in the story and how it started as an investigation into ritualistic murders, gradually progressing into a surreal hellscape where the words from found pages start to shape reality around here, saying that "... very quickly, the investigation turns into a nightmare when they discover pages of a horror story. Maybe written by a certain… missing writer?" This bit perhaps enforces our speculation that Saga is simply a product of Alan's imagination, a character in his book, as we speculated before.

Sam also empathized that Alan Wake 2, being a sequel, will also have a firm, standalone story and that players will not be forced to know every bit of the previous part's story; as he put it, "…we are not expecting everybody to do homework if they have not played the original game. This can be enjoyed, as Saga doesn't know anything about the law, about the supernatural in this world." This statement implies that Alan Wake's sequel will bring a fresh new perspective into the game, further confirming his previous statement that it will be as much Saga's story as it will be Alans.
