Have ARK Survival Evolved servers shut down?

Hopefully players' files won't go extinct.

Since its release, ARK Survival Evolved has been one of the most popular dinosaur-themed games on the planet. You may have noticed you can no longer load into the game, though, which is caused by very big development in the world of ARK Survival!

What happened to ARK Survival Evolved servers?

Basically, the servers for ARK Survival Evolved are finished. They closed down for good on September 30, 2023. It was actually a fairly emotional moment; there are videos of the final minutes of ARK Survival Evolved, where fireworks were shooting off.

Fortunately, though, Studio Wildcard isn't saying goodbye to dinosaur games completely. The shutting down of ARK Survival Evolved was planned in advance so they could release ARK Survival Ascended, the game's natural successor.

ARK Survival Ascended will remaster the previous game, along with a couple of DLC packages (Genesis Pass and Explorer Pass). This comes as ARK Survival Evolved has its price lowered by 10$. Essentially, this was done due to financial issues at Studio Wildcard, who are looking for funds to make a proper ARK 2.

There's no need to panic if you have a save file on ARK Survival Evolved, though. Since October 5, players have been able to access their save files to use on private servers or offline. That being said, you will likely need to start a new file when ARK Survival Ascended releases.
