Best Berry Gatherers in ARK Survival Ascended

Who needs a combine when I have my Stego?

Berries are an important resource in ARK Survival Ascended, used for many crafting recipes and for feeding herbivore dinosaurs. In this guide, I'll give you a breakdown of the best berry gatherers in the game.

What Dinosaurs are the best Berry farmers in ARK Survival Ascended?

The following list contains dinosaur species I found to be the best at gathering berries. Each species provides unique bonuses that impact your farming in a particular way. For this reason, you should learn what each species does before going through the process of taming them.

Therizinosaurus

These long-clawed dinos excel at both resource gathering and combat thanks to their vicious front talons. The Therizinosaurus's versatility makes it one of the most valuable species to tame in ASA.

Triceratops

It comes as no surprise some of the best berry gatherers are herbivores themselves. Triceratops— known in the ASA community as Trikes—are the easiest dinosaurs to tame and perfect early-game berry farmers. Though not as optimal for resource gathering as the Brontosaurus, Trikes cost fewer resources to obtain and don't require setting up a trap to capture them, so you can use the extra time to be more productive in farming or crafting.

Beaver

If you're looking to build on a large scale and have no pressing need for Berries, Beavers will farm them naturally while hauling in massive quantities of Wood. Provided you can tame one of them early enough in the game, they can also passively farm Berries in Wonder mode, making for easy early-game income.

Iguanodon

Iguanodons are some of my favorites. In 4-legged mode, they have practically unlimited stamina. They also can seed every berry in their inventory, which makes them great for farming purposes. Plus, they’re pretty easy to tame at lower levels. They can also defend themselves well against most early-game enemies without needing to invest in their stats, thanks to their inherited speed. They also get a boost for harvesting both Berries and Thatch.

Brontosaurus

Taming these gentle beasts can be pretty challenging, but it pays off in the end because Brontos are widely known to be kings of berry farming. They are incredibly tall, which means they have great reach, making them versatile. Their wide cone of effect will take out massive swathes of berry plants, which will shorten the farming time, optimizing it further.

While Brontos are generally accepted in the community to be the overall best in Berry farming, my main gripe with them is how slow they are. I haven't really been able to make them work outside thick jungle terrains, where they excel thanks to their reach. If I happen to spawn in a rocky or otherwise treacherous terrain, I will go so far as to avoid taming a Bronto altogether in favor of some other, more agile species.

Stegosaurus

These giant herbivores may not be as efficient as Brontos, but their record-breaking 75% weight reduction can sometimes compensate for it. I like using them when I stride further away from my base in search of berry sites.
