Baldur's Gate 3 is based on D&D, which makes some players wonder about a certain magical item known as the Bag of Holding in-game. Carrying a lot of items in Baldur's Gate 3 can make your character exceed the weight limit, which in turn slows you down. As such, some players are wondering if a Bag of Holding — a popular item in Dungeons & Dragons — is in the game to alleviate the issue.
How to get Chest of Mundane - Location (Map)
Baldur's Gate 3 does not yet feature a Bag of Holding for players to utilize. However, those who are missing this item can make use of something else known as the Chest of Mundane, which functions in a way similar to the Bag of Holding. Check the map image above to see the exact location.

Items you put in the Chest of Mundane will turn into insignificant items such as plates, spoons, and ladles. For example, putting a maul in the chest will turn it into a cup, while gold will turn into a ladle. But when you take these items out of the Chest of Mundane, they will return to their original form. Therefore, the Chest of Mundane is an excellent alternative for players who want to carry more heavy items.
How to Find the Chest of Mundane in BG3
The Chest of Mundane in BG3 is located inside the Arcane Tower, as you head towards the balcony in the north (X:-36 Y:-264). Entering the balcony triggers a perception check which reveals the Chest of Mundane hidden in a corner. Interact with the chest to collect the items inside. Once it's empty, use a strong character to pick up the chest.
Since my character is a wizard, I did not have the strength required to pick up the chest. However, party members like Lae'zel, Karlach, Halsin, and Astarion are strong enough to pick up the Chest of Mundane. Once it's in your inventory, you can share it with other party members.
Does the Chest of Mundane Have a Weight Limit in BG3?
After Patch #1, the Chest of Mundane was reworked to no longer reduce the weight of the items, so there is now a limit to how much you can add to this chest.
I went ahead and experimented with the Chest of Mundane to check the limit, and found adding singular objects like weapons, armor, potions, scrolls, and other items doesn't affect the chest, but adding more than 100+ items triggers the Encumbered condition for your character. Likewise, if you add wooden boxes, pouches, or bags which already have items in them, the Chest of Mundane exceeds its limits. With this approach, you are likely to get Encumbered and have your movement speed impeded. To illustrate this, I added a wooden box with 52 items to the Chest of Mundane; you can see from the images above how it breaks the weight limit.
