Baldur’s Gate 3 vs Diablo 4 – Which is Better?

Decisions decisions.

I was having a blast with Diablo 4, and just when I thought I knew what I would play for months - Baldur's Gate 3 appeared. Both games offer hours of fun, and as the day only has 24 hours, I had to make a choice. So who is the winner in Baldur's Gate 3 vs Diablo 4 duel? It's a tough question indeed!

Differences Between Diablo 4 and BG3

Judging strictly by screenshots, you might think D4 and BG3 play similarly. However, that's not the case; Diablo 4 is an action RPG where you'll go from place to place, annihilating enemies. On the other side, you have Baldur's Gate 3, a much slower game in comparison and largely driven by its story and interaction with characters. Unlike Diablo's real-time frantic combat, BG3 is much more strategic as it's turn-based, and the positioning of your party matters.

Diablo 4 has a solid story, but it's nowhere near the level of Baldur's Gate 3, and it's not expected to be. However, Diablo 4 pulls ahead in its moment-to-moment gameplay and extensive endgame builds. Also, it's very important to know that BG3 is a true single-player game with all advantages of save scumming (we all do it!).

Should you Play Diablo 4 or Baldur's Gate 3?

So, should you Play Diablo 4 or Baldur's Gate 3? Ultimately, it will come down to personal preference on what to play. Despite the similar looks, the two games couldn't be any more different from each other. If you want to turn your brain off and play a game, Diablo 4 gets the edge. Still, if you're going to experience complex Dungeons & Dragons combat, get immersed in a story, and exhaust numerous romance options, Baldur's Gate 3 is perfect for you.

Diablo IV vs BG3 - Verdict

In this Diablo 4 vs Baldur's Gate 3 duel, both games will have their fans. There's even a good chance you will like both of them yourself. Choosing one over the other is difficult, but it's a non-issue if you're willing to spend a bit of cash on both.

One factor to remember is that Baldur's Gate 3 is a single-player game that will still be there years from now, while Diablo 4 is a constantly updating live service where it's easy to feel left behind if you're not playing it all the time. As such, if you're interested in both, I recommend playing Diablo 4 until you're bored of it, then go for BG3 to mix things up.
