How to recruit Minthara in Baldur’s Gate 3

Bring Minthara to the light!

Following Patch #5 for Baldur's Gate 3, players can take on the extremely difficult Honour Mode, experience balance changes, and recruit Minthara, who was previously locked behind story elements. Here is how to recruit Minthara in BG3.

Before Patch #5, Minthara was only able to be recruited if you took the Goblin's side and destroyed the Druid Grove in Act 1. Since these actions led into an evil playthrough, many players were left with a difficult choice to recruit Minthara or save the Druid Grove. Now, you can recruit Minthara while saving the Druid Grove.

How to recruit Minthara during a good playthrough in BG3

To recruit Minthara during a good run, go through the Shattered Sanctum without attacking anyone and once you make it to Minthara's location, commit a crime by stealing something and she will have the "Temporarily Hostile" tag under her nameplate. Once in combat with her, use non-lethal attacks to knock her unconscious.

It is important that Minthara is not fully hostile or she will not appear later on. Do not interact with her before committing the crime, as some dialogue options will render her fully hostile.

Once you get to Act 2, you will be able to recruit her at Moonrise Towers during a mission to decide her fate. Find Minthara in the jails below Moonrise and free her to recruit her. To free her, either choose Deception or Persuasion when talking to the guards, which then will allow you to reach into Minthara's mind or attack the guards outright. If you reach into her mind, you can get her to help with the fight or feign obedience to get the guards to leave. Either option will result in you freeing her and being able to recruit her to your camp.

Recruiting Minthara effects in BG3

If you are doing a good playthrough with Minthara in your party, you may have trouble having a positive relationship with her. Most of her reactions to doing good deeds will be disapproval, so she will be much harder to romance. Speaking of romance, if you recruit her during a good playthrough, you will miss out on a very intimate scene at your camp during Act 1. While that may not be a deal-breaker for many players, some players may be disappointed to miss out on the graphic scene. Minthara's questline will still be available during the good playthrough if she is recruited, so you can still learn a lot about Minthara after recruiting her.
