Where to customize your horse in Zelda: Breath of the Wild

In short, to customize your horse in Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you need to find a specific NPC near one of the many stable locations in the game. These locations include both the one at Highlandhill and Foothill; at these locations, you will want to find an NPC tending to horses and talk to them while on your horse. You can do this by hold ZL to lock on to the NPC; after this, just hit A to open the customization menu.

After which, you will be able to customize your horse, but only if you are at maximum bond with it; if you are not sure how to get to max bound, you can do so by feeding your horse apples. Keep it up, and you will eventually get to maximum bond with your horse. When you are at the required bond level, you will be able to customize your horse with the following options.

  • Mane (appearance and color)
  • Saddle
  • Bridle

If you can't change your horse's saddle or bridle, that probably means you don't have another one of both items; luckily, there's a ton of horse armor you can find while exploring in the game.
