The Gulag is one of the core features and gameplay mechanics of Call of Duty: Warzone that gives players a second chance in the match after being eliminated. With the Modern Warfare 3 integration, the Gulag received a major update.
How to win the new Gulag in Warzone
As always, winning the 1v1 fight against a player in the Gulag gives you a free ticket back into the Warzone. You can do this by killing the opponent with weapons or by leaving the area using the zipline dropped during overtime (first image). This is different from the previous Gulag which featured a capture-the-flag style objective.
15 seconds after the fight begins, the Overtime Ascender win condition kicks in and you'll hear a rope drop down in the central area. If you manage to ascend to the top without getting eliminated, you'll redeploy into the match for free. But remember, you're exposed while using the zipline, hence, the enemy may shoot you down to take the win for themselves, and that's exactly what happened to me.

The new Gulag offers three variants of the same base map designed to have a simple, three-lane layout ideal for 1v1 gameplay. You may also find yourself in a night-mode Gulag, but it's quite rare and you'll have NVGs to see in the dark. If you have already utilized your Gulag chance, keep an eye out for reentry tokens while looting.
The arena may feature a Public Event like Locked & Loaded as you can see in the image. Here are the three possible dynamic events in the new Gulag in Warzone MW3:
- Locked & Loaded: Start with full armor and two upgraded guns with random attachments.
- Go Again: Get another chance if you lose your fight.
- Cash Grab: More cash on the ground with a larger stack in the center for the players to collect.
