It has been over six months since the current Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 2, was released. The game is a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019, which rebooted the popular Modern Warfare franchise. It turns out CoD developers are looking forward to continuing this reboot.
As per an exclusive report by Insider Gaming, the upcoming Call of Duty game for 2023 is called "Modern Warfare III." Since this information is not officially confirmed yet, you should take it with a grain of salt and wait for Activision to reveal the game, which should happen in a couple of months now. Expect MW3 to release in late October or early November this year.
If this report turns out to be true, which is highly likely considering the news outlet's past accurate reportings, the upcoming release should be a direct sequel to the current game. The report by Insider Gaming also mentions that the new game will feature the standard Campaign and Multiplayer modes, as well as Zombies. Players may also get to see a new Warzone 2 map that'll be set in Las Almas.
Until now, the development of all the Modern Warfare games was headed by Infinity Ward. This time around, Sledgehammer Games seems to be in charge. Once again, it's not official, but that's what the rumors say from multiple sources, including Jason Schreier of Bloomberg. Sledgehammer Games has produced games like Advanced Warfare, WW2, and Vanguard for the CoD franchise.
