Children of Silentown Chapter 5 Walkthrough

It's time to go and find mom.

Children of Silentown is a beautifully drawn point-and-click RPG with a clear nod to Tim Burton. While cute and often funny, there are sinister melancholic undertones throughout as you take Lucy on an epic voyage of discovery. Chapter five is the final part of her story, as she heads out to explore the forest and try to find her mother. But it also has some of the trickiest challenges in the game. Read on for our full Children of Silentown chapter five walkthrough.

Go downstairs and again solve a Mom's Song puzzle (below) to remove the brambles from your mom's music box. Try the front door, but you'll find you've been locked in. Go and collect a fire iron from next to the fire and use it on Squinty’s cat flap, the hole to the right of the front door.

Once outside, go and use Song of the Forest on the wall where the hole to where the crazy old lady's house used to be. Solve the puzzle (below), then look in the post box that appears and take the letter. Open it in your inventory to receive a mysterious letter and a key. Read the letter, which seems to be from the crazy old lady, then head back into the house and use the key on your mom's music box. You'll find another key inside, as well as more letters from the old lady. Go upstairs into your dad's room and use the new key in the secret drawer and read the notebook you find inside.

While consequently locked in your room, grab the sock from your clothes chest, the sheet on the bed, the blanket hanging behind the bed, the jar on top of the chest of draws, and the emergency cookies inside the chest of draws. Combine the sheet and blanket to make a makeshift rope, then use it on the window.

How to get the pedestal shards

Once in the forest, walk across the bridge and then combine the cookies with the jar to make a jar of cookies. Use the jar in the water under the bridge to soften the cookies, then use the jar on the fireflies on the plant just a few steps to the left to create a lantern for yourself. Keep walking left until you get to the waterfall, and examine the dead tree next to it to find your lost doll. Examine the waterfall to realize you can't go down on foot. Go back to where you got the fireflies and use the dead tree just behind and to the right of there. Use the bark on the waterfall to go down it to the windmill.

There is a wheel on the wall. Each time you turn the wheel right a numbered brick will come out from the wall here, releasing water to one of the nearby statues in the forest (turning left goes back through the numbers). Turn the wheel until it is at number three. Walk past the windmill and down (twice) to the next area, where you'll find a statue with the number three (III) on it and water pouring onto some gutters above it. Manipulate the gutters so that the water flows into the statue's bowl. This causes a pedestal to rise. Take the shard from the pedestal.

Head right then down and use the Song of the Children on the blue plant next to the beehive, complete the puzzle (above) and the plant will open up. Now pull the vines so that the top piece of the gutter is tilting down and right, towards the plant. Head back to the windmill. Turn it to number four and go back to where the blue plant is. Water will hit the gutter, then the blue plant, releasing the honey wax in the dead tree next to it. Use your rod to collect some wax, then combine it with your sock. Stuff that into the cracked bowl on the statue, then manipulate the gutters to flow water into the bowl. Again, take the shard from the pedestal.

Make the water at the windmill flow down canal two. Head down and down again to the area without a statue. Use Song of the Forest here and solve the puzzle (above) to reveal statue two. Go left to statue one, pick up the sand-covered basin on the floor, and take it back to and use it with statue two. Water will fill the bowl, giving you your third shard.

Go back to the windmill and up the steps on the left. Insert the three shards into the holes in the wall and then press the stone plunger, allowing you to get past the stone door. Follow the path left until you get to some purple vines and use Mom's Song on them. Complete the puzzle (above), then keep going left again. When it goes dark, click around the bottom left area of the screen to advance. When you meet the monster, pick up the rock next to you and use it on the monster. At the tree trunk across the chasm, sing Song of the Children to the creature to make it sit. Once you're across, sing Mom's Song to make it follow. Then, at the rock face, sing Song of the Forest to get a leg-up.

Head right until you're standing underneath the fruit high in the tree and stand next to the rock there in a position where the creature is looking up at the fruit. Sing Song of the Forest to get a leg-up onto the rock. Use your fire iron to hit the fruit, which knocks the weird object on the other branch low enough for you to reach it. Climb up the rock on the other side and grab the object. Walk right but into the corner, not back to the windmill, and sing Song of the Forest in the corner.

Solve the puzzle (above) to reveal a door that the weird object (a key) gives you access to. Once inside, get the creature to sit on one of the symbols on the ground while you stand on the other, which will open the door on the right. Go inside (look at the paintings on the wall to get a sticker) and to the end, so the creature is looking at the hole in the ceiling with light coming through. Use Song of the Forest on the creature and climb out of the hole.

How to get the final shard

Use the rod on the rotten tree, after which you'll arrive back at statue one near the windmill. Pick up the small basin and put it back on the statue. Go to the windmill, set it to statue one, then go back to the statue and make the water flow into the bowl to collect another shard. Use it in the last slot by the stone door and press the button, opening the stone door fully and allowing the creature to come through and join you. Make the water at the windmill flow down canal five. Head down, then right, to where the water is flowing down. Manipulate the gutters so that water pours into both bowls. Get the creature to sit on one symbol on the ground again, while you stand on the other, to get another plinth to rise up with the final shard. Take it and head back to the windmill. Put the shard into the socket next to the wheel. This stops the flow of water to the right of it, allowing you to climb back up.

When you fall into the landslide, crawl to your right until you're under the oddly shaped purple rock. Once there, sing Mom's song to call the creature over. When it is looking up at the tree, sing Song of the Forest and it will jump up and grab the vine. Walk back to the hole entrance and sing it again, and the creature will drop one end of the vine down to you. Make the creature sit, then crawl back through the tunnel right and tie the vine to the rock. Get the creature to walk to you and it will drag the rock up into the hole, getting stuck there. Get the creature to you, standing by the stuck rock, so it is looking up at the tree on the left side. Sing Song of the Forest and get the vine over one of its branches, making a basic pulley system. Crawl right once more and the creature will follow you, and you'll make it back to the village.
