How to gain access to the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test

Let me in!

Counter-Strike 2 has finally been announced after what feels like 84 years, and Valve is running a Limited Test phase for select PC players to try out the new CS game before release. Here's how to gain access to the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test.

Unfortunately, there's no surefire way to get into the CS2 playtest as Valve is picking participants themselves, with more access waves happening over time. Though there are ways to boost your chances, which include:

  • Recent playtime on official Valve servers
  • Trust factor
  • Steam account standing

To find out if you've been chosen to take part in the CS2 Limited Test, open up CSGO. You'll know if you're selected if you receive a notification on the main menu. From here, click on ENROLL, and the playtest will download.

Once the download has finished, open CSGO once again and select the Limited Test option to access it. For now, players will be able to access Deathmatch and Unranked Competitive matchmaking on the Dust2 map, though Valve has said it will add more options in further test releases.

If you're lucky enough to be chosen, your XP will carry over to CSGO, and you'll be able to access all of your Counter-Strike: Global Offensive inventory items.

How long will the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test last?

We don't know an exact end date at the time of writing, though Valve has stated, "Counter-Strike 2 is expected to ship Summer 2023," so it's highly likely it will be running up until the full game launch. We'll update you once we know more.
