Dead by Daylight has dominated the asymmetric game genre since its debut in 2016. Since then, many chapters have been released that add new killers, survivors, and maps. But how do they stack up against one another?
Best Chapters in Dead by Daylight Listed
35 - Hour of the Witch Chapter
A chapter consisting of a single survivor who has polarized the community thanks to her perks? Hour of the Witch and Mikaela are close to the bottom of the list. However, her perk Boom: Healing is still pretty useful.
34 - Tools of Torment
This chapter has a great idea but not great execution. It came with two new Survivors, Thalito and Renata Lyra, with some of the worst perks in DBD. The shining light is the Background Player perk. The Skull Merchant roams around the Shelter Woods to get more bones for her inventions.
33 - Of Flesh and Mud Chapter
Two of the more lackluster additions to the game were the Hag and Ace Visconti. Throw in a terrible map like Backwater Swamp, and this is one chapter best left forgotten. The only thing that stands out is the perk Ruin, an essential in a lot of Killer builds.
32 - A Nightmare on Elm Street
Yet another iconic killer joins Dead by Daylight's roster. But unfortunately, Freddy Krueger was and continues to be lackluster. Dream warrior Quentin Smith guides fellow survivors through the Badham Preschool map in an effort to evade the dreamy killer. I miss when he looked more like a goblin than a man.
31 - Forged in the Fog
The Knight and Vittorio are great characters; I love their design and lore. However, the Knight isn't very fun to play against or even play as. The Shattered Square map with the castle exit gates is cool, but its colors are a big eyesore.
30 - A Binding of Kin Chapter
The Twins are some of the most unique killers to grace Dead by Daylight. And who doesn't love kicking Victor? A survivor, Elodie Rakoto, joined the gruesome twosome in the Fog.
29 - Ash vs Evil Dead
If you want anyone in a fight against the evil Entity, you'd want Ash. Sadly, DBD doesn't allow for weapons. Ash's perk kit isn't great, either, which is why he is so low.
28 - Leatherface
When I hear a chainsaw revving, I always hope it's not Leatherface. I'm not a big fan of him, but I can respect his ability to get some quick kills. I don't respect basement camping, though.
27 - Descend Beyond Chapter
Descend Beyond brought a unique killer and overly handsome survivor to the Fog. The Blight mixes chemicals and horror like a master. Felix Richter was the architect of his own demise as he searched for answers best left unknown.
26 - All-Kill Chapter
In a stark departure from the rest of the series, the Trickster and his producer, Yun-Jin Lee, bring a splash of color to the otherwise grim setting of Dead by Daylight.
25 - Sadako Rising Chapter
The Onryo has captured the hearts of players everywhere. Survivor Yoichi Asakawa joins her in this terrifying chapter based on one of the most terrifying horror movies I have ever seen.
24 - Portrait of a Murder Chapter
Guy Fieri-inspired survivor Jonah Vasquez hunts down the Artist in the Eyrie of Crows map. Who is the real victim in this one? The jury is still out.
23 - Demise of the Faithful Chapter
In a chapter where the survivor proved to be more of a fan favorite than the killer, Jane Romero brought the Plague and the Temple of Purgation to Dead by Daylight. Playing against the Plague is not for those with a queasy stomach.
22 - End Transmission
The Singularity slipstreamed into DBD along with his map, Toba Landing, and the engineer, Gabriel Soma. His Biopods work so well against me since I never look up. Space awareness is the Singularity's best feature, but definitely not mine.
21 - Hellraiser Chapter
We opened the box, and he came. Pinhead drummed up all manner of discomfort and excitement with his inclusion.
20 - Shattered Bloodline Chapter
Love her or hate her, the Spirit is one of the most polarizing killers in the game. In the hands of a novice, she's laughable. In the hands of a pro, she's terrifying. Survivor Adam Francis joins her as the two scramble across the Family Residence map.
19 - Darkness Among Us Chapter
The Legion, four murderous teens, and survivor Jeff Johansen brought their haunt of the Mount Ormand Resort to Dead by Daylight in this chapter. A unique map, a highly popular killer, and another survivor: what's not to love?
18 - Roots of Dread
This DBD chapter has dredged up Haddie Kaurr and a new Killer, the Dredge, a manifestation of repressed darkness. Honestly, with that description, I really don't like encountering him, especially not in the Gardens of Joy, the map that came with this chapter.
17 - Curtain Call Chapter
The Clown made his horrific debut in Curtain Call. Joining him was the equally popular Kate Denson. Unfortunately for Kate, her final moments in Campbell's Chapel would be played out for eternity.
16 - Spark of Madness Chapter
A maniacal killer with a penchant for injecting humor into hunts, The Doctor is an explosive killer with the ability to apply real pressure to survivors. Joining him is Feng Min, who might be Dead by Daylight's most popular survivor. The duo brought Lery Memorial Institute, a wonderfully unique map, to the Fog. If only I knew where the exits were.
15 - Cursed Legacy Chapter
The Oni is one of the more terrifying killers in Dead by Daylight thanks to his imposing presence and penchant for screaming. Fashionista Yui Kimura finds herself in the Sanctum of Wrath map alongside the other unfortunates in the Fog.
14 - The Last Breath Chapter
Much like the Spirit, the Nurse's terror level directly correlates to the player's skill level. She's either terrible or terrifying; there is no in-between. Nea, another popular survivor pick, runs on the Asylum map for her life. Her Balanced Landing perk is one of the top movement speed perks in the game.
13 - Left Behind
Bill is one of the community's most beloved Survivors because of his altruistic perks. He deserves all of the love he gets, and I'm saying that as a Bill main. Besides, seeing him on a hook with a cigarette still in his mouth is hilarious. The man has his priorities.
12 - A Lullaby for the Dark Chapter
Easily one of Dead by Daylight's most popular killers, the Huntress, began to stalk the Fog in this chapter. Hunky survivor David King also made his debut as the two played hide-and-seek in the Red Forest: Mother's Dwelling map. Go to sleep to the sweet sounds of the Huntress's lullaby.
11 - Chains of Hate Chapter
Chains of Hate took Dead by Daylight to the Wild West. The ever-popular Deathslinger brought survivor Zarina Kassier and his haunt, the Dead Dawg Saloon, to the Fog.
10 - Ghost Face
You'll definitely scream when Ghostface sneaks up on you. It's fun to have a staring contest with him, even if that means he'll kill you. Some sacrifices have to be made.
9 - The Saw Chapter
Another popular killer (for snoot-booping reasons) was added in the Saw chapter. The Pig, David Tapp, and the Gideon Meat Plant found themselves transported to the Fog. I have a love-hate relationship with that bathroom generator, but I'll always run to it as soon as I'm in a match.
8 - Stranger Things Chapter
Back in the Fog, yet again, the Stranger Things chapter is an incredibly popular collaboration for the asymmetric horror title. Steve Harrington, Nancy Wheeler, and the Demogorgon can roam around the Hawkins National Laboratory again.
7 - Resident Evil Project W
You can never be wrong when adding more Resident Evil content to Dead by Daylight, especially when it comes with Wesker as a Killer. Combine that with Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers, you get another RE chapter that is at the top of the community favorites.
6 - Alien
I don't know what's more iconic about the Alien chapter, The Xenomorph, or Ripley, a beloved Final Girl who doesn't just run away but fights back. These characters come with the Nostromo Wreckage map.
5 - Chucky
For longtime fans of DBD, getting Chucky in the game seemed impossible. Despite the odds, the Good Guy ran into the fog, and I have to say he is pretty fun to play with. The unique perspective brings a great change to the Killers of DBD.
4 - The Halloween Chapter
The Halloween chapter brought in The Shape (Michael Myers), arguably one of the most popular killers in Dead by Daylight. He is one of my personal favorites. As a Survivor main, I love the horror and jumpscare aspect that he continually brings to the game. Joining him are Laurie Strode and the iconic Haddonfield map.
3 - Resident Evil Chapter
One of the most exciting reveals was that Resident Evil would be coming to the torturous world of Dead by Daylight. This meaty chapter included Nemesis, Leon S. Kennedy/Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine/Claire Redfield, and the iconic RPD Station map, which is better after the rework.
2 - Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage, the most unexpected addition to The Fog, has brought much joy. It's like Santa Claus come early if Santa swore. His voice lines are hilarious to listen to and I love him mocking the Killers, especially Michael.
1 - Silent Hill Chapter
Silent Hill tops the horror game genre as well as the Dead by Daylight chapters list. The pinnacle of chapters graced players with the Executioner (Pyramid Head), Cheryl Mason, and the Midwich Elementary School map.
